Which Python GUI framework is right for someone new to GUI programming? But who may also aspire to open source community (linux) development/involvement? Cross platform, wonderful documentation/tutorials, and cruft-free new technology are also welcome. [more inside]

Looking for a good to-do list application (Windows XP).
I used to use Microsoft Outlook with some vb behind it, and especially liked the ability to send Action Items between coworkers. However I switched to Mozilla Thunderbird for personal use and haven't seen any plugins for this. Integrated Time Tracking and remote access would be a plus. Open Source and or freeware is nice but not essential. Any recommendations that meet some subset of this criteria? Or should I get to coding...

Open source requirements, testing and defect tracking software: any of you have good/bad/middling experience with web-based tools that offer a good alternative to ($$$) TestDirector or its ilk? Preferred platform would be Windows.

Laptop Clean XP Install:
1] My (on board?) sound card is unrecognised. How do I find out what drivers to use?
2] What programs do you really think I need? I already have VNC, VLC, Firefox, Thunderbird and AVG installed. What else should I add? (Freeware/OS appriciated but not needed.) [more inside]

Is there an open source and/or free Windows software that will create encrypted, virtual drives? I'm looking for something equivalent to DriveCrypt

My laptop has taken to switching itself off at random intervals, but only at my parents or in-laws houses. The general consensus is that these houses are hotter than my own and it may be just enough to upset my system.
Can anyone recommend a good freeware (pref OpenSource) program to check up on the internal temperatures of the system? I'm running WinXP.
