Open source software is considered trustworthy because anyone can validate the source code and hold the developer accountable. Usually developers will also make compiled binaries available for convenience. How can we know that these binaries are compiled from the
same source code the developer published, and not a malicious variant of it?

I lease a massive server that I am underutilizing. I'd like to use up to 8TB/month of transfer and 500GB of disk space to make the world a better place. I am already seeding Ubuntu distros, Project Gutenberg, and Pearl Jam shows, and I'm looking for more ideas.

I have written software that I would love to make open source. However, I would like to take the back-end, the core of the application, and sell Android and iOS implementations of it while keeping the front-end for PC development open. Is this possible? Practical? Even worth considering?

I have searched the web, the AskMe mind, and asked a couple of local LTSP experts about a good, printed resource that will take me step by step through setting up an Ubuntu server and eight to ten clients. I know where to find most if not all the install info online, which is where most experts have pointed me, but my mind works better if can can see it in a book. Suggestions?

I recall seeing an open-source project for the iPhone which allowed you to share your iPhone's internet connection with a computer, i.e. "tether". It's not as easy as, um, "proper" iPhone tethering. Also, you must a paid-up iPhone Developer to compile and install it to your phone. But otherwise, yay. But I can't find it anymore. Believe me, I have googled. Ring a bell for anyone?

How can I limit printing quantities on a quasi-public networked printer? I run a small nonprofit computer center with 10 networked computers (8 XP, 2 OSX). I need to control ink & paper costs, but want people to be able to print free or low, low cost. When I was at Uni, we had a system where all users had to buy tokens at 5 cents a page. Is there an open source or low cost program that can help me do this? Even if my selling cost is zero, I want to track users and usage.
