I'm using OpenOffice Writer 2.2 (Windows XP). I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to define a page style from a page I've already created, short of writing everything down and recreating the page. There's got to be a better way. [more inside]

I need some really REALLY basic spreadsheet help. I've been given the task of creating a spreadsheet that will work out for us several things - how many orders we need in total and per week, how much revenue this will bring, etc. I've got most of it worked out, but I can't for the life of me how to work out percentages. Yes, I did Google this before asking. :D [more inside]

Let's say that I got a new computer without MS Office on it and I install Open Office. Let's also say a person sends me a Word or Excel file via email. Will I be able to read it and edit it in Open Office without messing up the format? If I make any changes to the file and email it back to my friend, will he be able to read it and make further edits to it while using the Microsoft Office applications?

I'm about to get a brand new PowerBook and would like to be able to run OSX, Linux, and run Windows applications. VPC is one option, but isn't there a Linux version that will run Windows applications? If so, what is it, how well does it work, and how best should I setup the computer to use it? Dual boot? Boot from within OSX? Multiple partitions, one for each OS? Since this laptop will be brand new, I'd like to take the opportunity to get everything setup right. Oh yeah, I'd also like to give OpenOffice a try (on the OSX install), any words of wisdom for me there?

I'm now using OpenOffice 1.1.5 on WinXP sp2, as I don't intend to buy Word/Office or whatever it's called these days. It's ok, but has a real shortage of built-in templates. I'm particularly looking for business cards i can adapt. I have googled - there's not a lot out there for XP, a bit for Linux. Do you have any links?

Openoffice.org question. I've been using OO.o for a couple of weeks now and one thing is driving me mad. The cursor always looks to be about 1em further ahead of the text than it actually is. As a result I frequently find myself thinking I typed an extra space and deleting the last letter of a word. Is there any way to fix this? It is actually annoying enough that I will stick with Word until it is resolved.

I've been thinking about plunking down the cash to buy a licensed copy of MS Office (or Office XP, or Office 2003, etc.) for my new laptop. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't just run Openoffice instead? From what I've read, it appears that I can "save as" most MS formats with it. Any firsthand experience?
