I am filing tax returns for a number of prior years. One of those years was spent renting an apartment, but having almost no income whatsoever to claim. Rent was paid through a variety of means (read: help from parents). It was one of those years. Do I claim the rent paid? [more inside]

What are my options to rent an indoor gym for basketball in Richmond Hill, Ontario? 10 university students who work and live in the area. The community center offers a relatively high rate by the hour so were wondering where else we could consider renting a basketball gym in and around Richmond Hill.

Question: I'm from the UK temporarily working and living in a university city in Ontario, Canada for the 2009/2010 academic year. Due to the fact that I work from home a lot and have to transfer large files (via Skype/DropBox/FTP) from Canada to my labmates overseas, my landlady's internet usage has gone up since I've become a tenant. I think she's using Rogers Express or Extreme Plan. If I'm understanding things correctly, according to the Ontario Landlord/Tenant Act, Canadian landlords can't increase a rent until 12 months after a tenancy has started. What do I do?

Can an Ontario lease stipulate that, once the lease is up and I switch to month-to-month tenancy, I still can't move out between October and April? [more inside]

I've heard that one can sever certain contracts they sign in Ontario if it's within the first 10 days of signing. If this is true, does it also apply to a lease on a house?

NoWaterFilter: My landlord had to shut down the water on Saturday and only gave me a couple of hours warning. It's Monday and it's still not on. I'm in Ontario and I'm wondering what my rights are in this situation. [more inside]
