I'm looking to buy a practical backpack that will last and look good for hiking, walking around town, daytrips abroad, and more. I'm leaning towards a Fjällräven kånken due to their classic design and quality. [more inside]
I have a problem buying clothes online. I'm in an in-between point in my fashion life: I'm not dressing like an undergraduate, but I haven't reached the LL Bean stage in my life either, and I don't have an office job that requires wearing business casual. Where do you all shop online? [more inside]
Jones New York is apparently going under, so I'm looking for alternatives. Examples of what I like: this, this, and this. I'm looking for casual and business-casual clothes that are pretty standard with some interesting touches. My other main places to shop are Goodwill and Marshalls, where I look for Splendid, Loft, BR, James Perse, etc.
I'm on Ditropan (Oxybutynin); I have a prescription. I'd like to try DitropanXL but the pharmacist I spoke to said it's not available in Australia. Really? If that's true, it looks like I can buy it online - is this legit? Thanks! [more inside]
I tend to be very rough on phones and my beloved cell phone case maker otterbox does not make a case for my new phone (HTC Desire 601/ZARA) What would you get instead and what site would you buy it from? [more inside]
I bought several pairs of shoes online at J. Crew intending to try them on and return whichever ones didn't fit. (They are shoes in a hard to find size and they are not sold in stores.) Unfortunately, the return period is 60 days and I am about a week too late... [more inside]
Should I bite the bullet and buy expensive prescription sunglasses that I like and know will fit, or are there tips for buying prescription glasses online that I can use to find a good cheapo pair? [more inside]
I'm decorating for the first time. I want things to look nice and not "grad school chic". Difficulty: I hate shopping and don't have a lot of time to spend fussing with things. Where should I buy stuff and how do I find out what I like? Is there a website where I can see a beautiful living room and click to buy what I like from it? [more inside]
Circumstances being what they are, online shopping is increasingly attractive to me (as opposed in in-the-flesh purchases). However, I hate to pay for shipping. Could you recommend some companies/brands that offer free shipping to Melbourne, Australia? [more inside]
I'm doing field work in a hot climate and need to order some skirts online before I go. I'm having trouble finding skirts that fit my pretty specific requirements, but you have been really helpful with "find me this clothing item" requests in the past. Can the hive mind make some recommendations? [more inside]
I've decided that I want to get a few graphic t-shirts for the summer. I've found a few designs on Spreadshirt that I like, but I've never used the service before, and I'm sort of nervous about their general quality. Overall I'm wondering if anyone has experience buying from them. If not, then do you have experience buying from other store-fronts that sell custom printed shirts from a broad range of artists? I'm looking for a wide range of designers, and as few clever puns or of-the-moment pop culture references as possible. I'm interested in abstract designs more than stuff that's text or brand heavy. Ideally this would be about 20 dollars per shirt.
A previous question about affordable men's style generated a recommendation for Dappered. Dappered has helped in a couple of cases, but its glib self-importance, aspirational posturing, and adolescent dating advice (from a real, live woman!) make me feel like I'm reading a 19-year-old's advice for the varsity jacket crowd. What are some alternatives that do stick to a similar, relatively sensible budget and don't descend into tedious aspirational window-shopping, as many other fashion and consumer design blogs do?
I want to buy delicious chocolate, online preferably. I would prefer pure chocolate (milk or dark with no nuts or any distractions) or truffles (creamy with no flavor other than chocolate). I have seen a couple of websites online, but would like your recommendations... [more inside]
In order for any web site to charge one for services or goods, in this case services, what are they legally required to record and produce? I'm having a little trouble wording my exact question so maybe this will help. The web site in question provides phone service for inmates in correctional facilities and in order for one to receive calls from a loved one in the correctional facility you have to set up an account and attach a phone number to it while loading money for the overpriced service... $5 for 15mins. The company charged me a fee of $5 every time I was to load money on the account which did not show the rate for a call per min and also charged me numerous unknown fees. I could not tell why or how much I was charged which was made worse by their not being a way to track credits and charges to the account. When I contacted customer support they also could not account for the charges and would not refund them, refused to refund my visa purchase, and claims to have no way of producing charges and credits to my account. Their customer service is no help and I'm not sure how to handle the situation. [more inside]

When you're shopping online, do you like to see detailed descriptions or just the bare bones specs? Or have you seen research that says one or the other? I'm responsible for adding new products to our online shops, and I'm trying to justify the time spent writing detailed descriptions. [more inside]
My Mom used to love using bath beads, but we haven't been able to find them for ages (We used to get them at a little red shop instead of a bigger store; I think it was a body shop inside of a Sears or Bay or something like that?) Anyway, I figured I would get her some for mother's day. This is turning out to be a lot more challenging than I anticipated. [more inside]
I am trying to avoid shopping at amazon.com because of the company's predatory business model. What are the best online alternatives for each product category? [more inside]

I am looking for a non-traditional wedding dress but am not finding a ton that I love in my city. When I looked at Nordstrom, which was the best of the available brick-and-mortar options, I found this, which I loved and looks good on me, but the navy is way too dark a color. If I want to find something with a similar fit and/or look online, what "dress words" do I search for, and where should I be looking? [more inside]
I would like to purchase an off-brand tablet computer from a discount electronics website. I know nothing about components or specs or anything- the only info I have to go on is bigger number is good. Please help me. (sorry but this post got way too long, you've been warned.) [more inside]
I am traveling out of town Friday morning for a family Bat Mitzvah. I had intended to go shopping for my outfit last week, but didn't due to flu symptoms, an unexpectedly heavy workload, and my characteristic sartorial ineptitude and hatred of shopping. My solution is to wear dressy black pants with a dressy blouse. I do not own such a blouse and must have one delivered to my doorstep. Is the black pants + blouse solution acceptable? What style and/or brand of blouse should I look for and where? How can I avoid looking business casual at this semi-dressy occasion? [more inside]
I'm getting a start making jewelry and am looking for suppliers for inexpensive beads and pendants. Most of what I've been using has been cheap stuff from Fire Mountain and I've been really happy with the stuff I've gotten for them in the 75 cents to 2 dollar range but am looking for more variety. I'm more interested in pendants and other focals than beads, but I'm addicted enough to the bead part that I'll look at sites that focus on those too :) [more inside]

East coast Canada, where can I find nerf/foam swords? Local stores appear to be sold out, but suggestions of places I might not have thought of are helpful. What should I do about a jewelry company trying to back out of a sale which I already paid for? I ordered online a small piece of custom gold jewelry this week, paying the price coded into the seller's own website. Now the seller's "customer service" staff has emailed me to say the price of gold went up and they can't sell me the piece at the price I paid. [more inside]

Is there a site that approaches (online) purchasing of apparel from a serious and rigorous consumer perspective? I'm thinking of a site where I select, say, t-shirts and get detailed information about the garment, various garment variations (athletic t-shirt, work t-shirt, etc), washing Instructions, which high quality value brands that sell t-shirts, verified quality testing of t-shirts from forementioned brands, etc.
