Why does Amazon have to estimate sales tax?

I live in Chicago. When I buy something from Amazon (as in "ships from and sold by Amazon.com"), the checkout process and confirmation email show me an estimated sales tax of 10.25% (the sales tax rate for the state + county + city). The final tax actually charged, however, is the correct state-only tax of 6.25%. My question is why Amazon ever has to estimate. [more inside]

Women's fashion in Britain

Because "The one that I want to buy" is not a search phrase.

I think I'm losing my online shopping skills. It's exhausting me, and unfortunately I strongly prefer to order online. In a sea of purchasing options, how do you find what you want at the best price without visiting multiple sites and spending half the day comparing prices and reviews? Or flipping through a hundred pages on Amazon? Is there someone aggregating this stuff? I'm not talking about fun things like Christmas gifts or personal shopping, I'm talking boring stuff. Simple ceramic plant pot with dish?

Where can I find a ceramic plant pot with drainage dish? For some reason, these have been so much harder to find than I ever imagined. eBay Issue: Confirming Order Cancellation as a Buyer

Yesterday I accidentally purchased something on eBay and had to contact the seller today to get the item cancelled. Brands/stores like Jones New York?

Jones New York is apparently going under, so I'm looking for alternatives. Examples of what I like: this, this, and this. I'm looking for casual and business-casual clothes that are pretty standard with some interesting touches. My other main places to shop are Goodwill and Marshalls, where I look for Splendid, Loft, BR, James Perse, etc.

Looking for graphic t-shirts that aren't terrible

I've decided that I want to get a few graphic t-shirts for the summer. I've found a few designs on Spreadshirt that I like, but I've never used the service before, and I'm sort of nervous about their general quality. Overall I'm wondering if anyone has experience buying from them. If not, then do you have experience buying from other store-fronts that sell custom printed shirts from a broad range of artists? I'm looking for a wide range of designers, and as few clever puns or of-the-moment pop culture references as possible. I'm interested in abstract designs more than stuff that's text or brand heavy. Ideally this would be about 20 dollars per shirt.

A better Dappered for affordable men's streetwear.

A previous question about affordable men's style generated a recommendation for Dappered. Dappered has helped in a couple of cases, but its glib self-importance, aspirational posturing, and adolescent dating advice (from a real, live woman!) make me feel like I'm reading a 19-year-old's advice for the varsity jacket crowd. What are some alternatives that do stick to a similar, relatively sensible budget and don't descend into tedious aspirational window-shopping, as many other fashion and consumer design blogs do?

What is the legality for a web site to make credit transactions?

In order for any web site to charge one for services or goods, in this case services, what are they legally required to record and produce? I'm having a little trouble wording my exact question so maybe this will help. The web site in question provides phone service for inmates in correctional facilities and in order for one to receive calls from a loved one in the correctional facility you have to set up an account and attach a phone number to it while loading money for the overpriced service... $5 for 15mins. The company charged me a fee of $5 every time I was to load money on the account which did not show the rate for a call per min and also charged me numerous unknown fees. I could not tell why or how much I was charged which was made worse by their not being a way to track credits and charges to the account. When I contacted customer support they also could not account for the charges and would not refund them, refused to refund my visa purchase, and claims to have no way of producing charges and credits to my account. Their customer service is no help and I'm not sure how to handle the situation. [more inside]

What non-sketchy sites can I buy unscented bath beads from?

(Wedding) dresses for n00bs; where online to look and what search terms?

Fashion emergency.

I am traveling out of town Friday morning for a family Bat Mitzvah. I had intended to go shopping for my outfit last week, but didn't due to flu symptoms, an unexpectedly heavy workload, and my characteristic sartorial ineptitude and hatred of shopping. My solution is to wear dressy black pants with a dressy blouse. I do not own such a blouse and must have one delivered to my doorstep. Is the black pants + blouse solution acceptable? What style and/or brand of blouse should I look for and where? How can I avoid looking business casual at this semi-dressy occasion? [more inside]

I need to buy more of the jewelry things!

I'm getting a start making jewelry and am looking for suppliers for inexpensive beads and pendants. Most of what I've been using has been cheap stuff from Fire Mountain and I've been really happy with the stuff I've gotten for them in the 75 cents to 2 dollar range but am looking for more variety. I'm more interested in pendants and other focals than beads, but I'm addicted enough to the bead part that I'll look at sites that focus on those too :) [more inside]
