Help me improve my poker game

Can you help a n00b get started with online poker? I am considering playing poker online, and have a few questions I'm hoping you all can help with. I'm most interested in answers to question 3.

1. Is it legal? I've heard yes, but reassure me please?
2. I have a macbook, and can run windows, but would really rather use the mac side of things. Which sites offer mac compatible software? Which of the mac compatible sites do you prefer, and why?
3. What games offer the most 'bang for the buck'? My goal playing online is to improve in a home game I play (and usually host). I am a grad student, so I don't have a lot of cash to throw around. By the same token, I know that online games with play money tend not to resemble actual games in the ways that matter. So what games should I look for to get practice against people who are playing to win, but won't break my bank account?

Thank you much!

Help with online poker addiction

I think my brother is addicted to online poker... My younger brother is in his last year of university right now. He recently cashed out $7000 from his RRSP account which my parents gave him, so my dad ran a credit check on him. Apparently he's managed to max out $25k in credit cards while having all his living expenses paid for by my parents. My dad asked him where the money went, and he went on a bit about some guy who he is investing money with...very vague and sketchy and I'm sure totally made up. I'm afraid he's addicted to online poker since I can't think of where else he could possibly spend $30k while at school in a college town.

A little bit about my brother: he's got a lot of issues with compulsive behaviour, including actual OCD, which may be linked with his Tourette's syndrome. He's also really bad with money, likes to spend a lot. Also, in terms of gambling, he's one of those people that think it's perfectly reasonable to expect to win at the casino...he reads about those guys who win at poker tournaments and uses that as evidence that he can come out ahead if he knows the right "tricks" etc. So basically, he's got all the personality it takes to become a compulsive gambler.

My brother is a smart guy, and works hard when he needs to. He could get a pretty good job after graduation probably, and in terms of money my parents can afford to bail him out if they needed to. The problem is none of that helps him with the gambling!! None of us know what to do at this point...Advice? Experience? Resources?
PartyPoker, RIP.

PartyPoker is gone. Where do I go now? Due to the new law Bush signed on Friday, PartyPoker has stopped accepting wagers from US players. Looking for a site to replace it. I play very (very) low stakes NL Holdem. Looking for a site with good software, a low rake, and a large number of players. Since I don't play much, I care very little about rakeback or bonuses (since I would hardly ever clear them anyway).

I tried WPEX, and the software was ugly and made me want to cry. My home has been taken from me. Where do I move to?

Also, I hate Bill Frist.

Is this online poker offer legit or not?

A friend of mine told me about a site that will give you $50.00 on PartyPoker.com just for registering for a certain online poker forum. (mi) This is not advertising, I swear. The website in question can be seen here. I've read through the "fine print" and such, and see that you have to play 500 raked hands before you are able to make a withdrawal from your account. Has anyone already signed up for this offer? Is this legit or some sort of scam?

You poker, you brought 'er.

Online Poker: How do people play differently when you move from play to real money? And what e-wallet solution do you recommend? I'm about to start playing poker for real money. I've been playing for play money for a while, and consistently make a "profit." However, after watching real money games, I'm convinced that playing for real money has a real psychological effect -- is it just me or do players fold more often and bluff less? (How can a bluff possibly be effective when playing limit games?)

Also, my CC provider will not accept transactions from gaming sites, how do I get money over there? What are the best/safest services?
