Need help finding a realtor in Olympia WA

Seeking recommendations for realtors in Olympia, WA. Failing that, seeking suggestions for how to find a good realtor if you don't know many people locally to ask. Nervous potential first-time homebuyer seeks knowledgeable, highly competent, non-icky buyer's agent. Anyone out there had good experiences with anyone in particular? And how *does* one go about finding a realtor if you don't know people locally who can provide suggestions?

Vacation to Washington state

10 days in and around Olympia, WA. What to do? So, I live in Chicago and am going to visit my brother and his family in Olympia in the beginning of Dec. I am not planning on spending the entire time with them, will have a car, and plenty of outdoor gear for hiking, climbing, boarding etc.

I would LOVE to hear any and all suggestions on decent hikes in and around the area and maybe heading out to the ocean. I know it's kind of an odd time of year, but I really don't care, I am thrilled to be out of the city for a bit.

How can I find a nice room to rent quickly in Olympia Wa?

I am having to move out of were I am living at the end of this week and have been having trouble finding a new place to live in Olympia. I have tried both the internet and local paper but still have not found anything that I think would work for me any ideas? I am 28 female looking for a place to stay that is cool with meat eating and TV watching in Olympia Wa. Also right now I don't have the money to get my own place.
I need the place NOW and have tried Craigslist and the local paper and all I find is hippies and men. I don't have a problem with men but would not want a house of all guys either. The roommate finding websites charge to do anything more then look. No one I know around either has need of roommate or space to let me crash.
I need to find a place by the end of the week. My sister would love to let me stay here with her, but her house is not set-up for someone to stay more then one or two weeks and we are going into the third. And going back to were I was before would mean moving out of state which I also don't want to do.
Any ideas would be great

where is the art in oly?

What's up with the arts scene in Olympia, WA? and where can I find it? Talking visual art, performance art, maybe some theater and music and film.... I'm moving to Olympia and trying to find organizations/groups/places where I can feed my interest in art/go to cool events/take classes or maybe even find a job/volunteer. On the web, all I find are lists of commercial galleries and watercolor leagues, I'm looking for the radical, modern, avant garde, grass roots kind of places. Oly is known for this kind of stuff, but does it extend to the art community? I know Seattle is brimming with this stuff but I'm looking for places closer to Oly, Tacoma would be sort of a maximum distance.

Helpful answers include:
places to take art/crafts/dance classes
places to see art or performances
places that work to bring art to the community/kids/etc.
public art projects
alternative exhibition venues or museums
artists co-ops

thanks!

Where should I take my mom hiking near Olympia, WA?

What's a good place to take my Mom hiking in the Olympia, WA area? She's got endurance for a decently long, steep walk, but she's afraid of heights and won't walk on loose or slippery surfaces. That means a packed-down or paved trail, and no vertigo-inducing views. No river crossings or anything that requires feats of balance, strength, or flexibility. However, strenuous hills are fine. I'm hoping to find something within an hour or two of Olympia.

Best beach on the Washington state Pacific Coastline?

Best beach on the Washington state Pacific Coastline? Taking a looong day-trip (rain or shine) to the Pacific Coast this Saturday from Seattle. Anyone have any recommendations for the best beach with access on the Washington coastline?

Also... I want to head South (Olympia) to the coast and come back through the North (via Bainbridge ferry) on the way home to Seattle. Anyone ever done this? Is this crazy to think to do (by simply driving and not stopping very much) in one day?

(Any suggestions as to good eateries/sights that can be easily accessed en route to or from the coast are welcomed as well.)

Where can I take Modern or African dance or Contact Improvisation classes in or near Olympia, WA?

Where can I take Modern or African dance or Contact Improvisation classes in or near Olympia, WA (Seattle is too far)? I want a place that leans toward the modern side of things, and less the jazz and ballet side of things. Ideally, a not-too-competitive atmosphere with a healthy, community feel, open to different skill levels and out-there artsy ideas, but that may not exist so anything you know of having to do with modern dance would help! Note my two examples below:
For example, this place is what I DON'T want.
And this is what I do want, only closer to Olympia proper.

Is it realistic to leave Astoria, OR in the a.m. to arrive at SEATAC for a 1:30 flight? We are planning a west coast trip and will be in Newport on a Wed. morning. I want to drive up the Oregon coast on Wed, stay overnight and then catch a flight leaving Seattle on Thu @ 1:30...Trying to decide where to stay Wed. night. Enough time to make the airport staying in Astoria? or push through on Wed. to Olympia, WA?...any other nice, hidden places (prefer B&Bs) in between? Recommendations on places to stay are welcome too!

We're moving. Now what?

Oh god, not another moving/travel question. Oh, but it is! Eattheweak and I are picking up and moving from Denton, TX to the Olympia WA area in about seven weeks. We've done nothing to prepare and now it's crunch time. You can bet your britches that there's We're done with the south. It's time to get out. His parents live a few hours away from Olympia, we both like that area of the country. So now what?

We need to find a place to live first and formost. We have to decide on it sight unseen. Where do we start? We've been looking at a variety of apartment sites, but it's hard to actually figure anything out from that. Same goes for the apartment rating sites. Those are just filled with people who hate them or the apartment managers trying to inflate the score.

We want something cheap but not slummy. Somewhere we can just be left alone as long as our rent is on time. I will be working in Lacey and he hopes to be going to Evergreen State. We're also noticing that Denton and Olympia's version of cheap might be very different. What is the usual price for an ok one bedroom apartment?

Next, we'll be driving. We're planning on going from Denton to Santa Fe, NM (to celebrate my birthday) then to Pheonix, AZ then getting through LA as quick as possible and just head north. Anything we keep an eye out for or be on notice about? He can legally drive and we were considering getting me a learner's permit in Texas (he's 27 and I'm about to be 25). Will this cause any problems with the other states?

As far as we can figure, unless we want to drop a couple thousand dollars there is no way for us to move big stuff like furniture (2 desks, a bookshelf, and an end table to be exact). So we're thinking that we'll ship things like records and video games and books media mail to his parents and pack anything that'll fit in the 99 Chevy Malibu and just leave everything else behind. Any other solutions worked for you guys?

Basically we're one huge ball of stress and any help you can give to guide or direct on the travel or living in Olympia front will be greatly appriciated.

Indie Rock Interconnections Map

About five years ago I stumbled across a website that contained a terrific "map" of the various Olympia-based post-grunge indie rock bands (such as
Sleater-Kinney,Cadallaca, The Softies, Quasi, Sarah Dougher), and the interrelations between them (for instance Sarah Dougher has been a vocalist for both Cadallaca and the Crabs; Corin Tucker is a member of Sleater-Kinney and was also in Cadallaca with Sarah Dougher"). But now, for the life of me, I can't find that site, despite using all of my google-hacking skills. Does anyone else know where that page, or a page like it is?
