Is the Titanium Dioxide in this, or any, gum a health concern?
Please help me understand the BP oil spill. I see the footage of the oil plume and wonder how wide it is when it reaches the surface. This question tells me why capping the pipe is not feasable. But what about creating a thermal column of warm(er) water to help "focus" the oil plume to a more concentrated area on the surface while the relief well is being drilled? Thanks for your explanations...
In this video, Kerry Kennedy states that the average lifespan of a Exxon Valdez cleanup worker is 51 years old and that almost all of those cleanup workers are dead today. Can anyone dig up a source for this statement... besides this video?

What conservation or local groups are currently working on cleaning up the oil from the BP oil spill, especially in terms of wildlife? I'd like to donate as I'm not able to volunteer.
Many pictures of the oil spill show the booms washed up on shore, or filled with oil on the wrong side. An example of this. Why is the oil always on the wrong side of the boom? Are these booms really doing anything? Shouldn't the oil be gathering on the other side, ready to be skimmed and cleaned?
Wont the BP oil well run out of oil at some point? How long could it possibly keep spewing? Don't wells run dry? (Sorry if I am hopelessly naive. I've never thought about oil wells in my life before this.)

The stock price of BP is at about $42/share. When the US Market opens after Memorial Day, the price will have surely fallen because of the company's failed "junk shot" and "top kill". [more inside]
The NYTimes has an article this morning about the next trick to stop BP's oil spill in the Gulf: the "junk shot" (basically stuff a bunch of junk in the pipes to clog it). Looking at the left half of this picture I'm wondering why they can't do that dynamite trick used in There will be blood (1:14 in the clip) ... just drill down a couple hundred meters to the pipe, send some explosives in and let the earth stop the leak. Anyone know why not?

My name is Daniel Plainview. I am driven and goal-oriented, and I endeavor to forge new possibilities in alternative energy.
In There Will Be Blood, Daniel Plainview delivers the line: "I have a competition in me." Could this be described as grammatically correct, strictly speaking? Or is it idiomatic, but not strictly correct? Is Plainview saying, essentially, "I have a [sense of] competition in me," a sentence that, were it to be spelled out as such, would lose its rhetorical punch? Could it be argued as a case of poetic metonymy or something of the kind? [more inside]
There seems to be a trend among older women, at least in Baltimore (mainly African-American ladies, but I have seen Hispanic and Caucasian women do this as well), of matting down hair with some sort of oil. The goal seems to be to get as much hair as possible as close to the scalp as possible. The bangs are then stuck to the forehead, and it looks like this is purely oil based. As I haven't yet had the kahones to ask one of these lovely ladies what's up with the hair, I was hoping someone knew: A. What sort of product is being applied to get this "just out of the oil bath" look? B. Is this an every morning thing, or do you apply just once a week? Once a month?
