How do I find a job where I'm useful?

I've found what bothers me about my office job -- my position and what I do is utterly useless. What I do has absolutely no effect on anyone, nor does it increase my employer's profit or success in any measurable way. I've realized this is what leaves me absolutely drained at the end of the work day, though I've spent the day sitting at a desk. It also makes me dread going to work in the morning because I could not feel more like a cog in the machine. What are some jobs where I can actually feel useful or needed, or feel like I'm contributing to society? [more inside]

Cubicle Dwellers Go Primitivist (Comic)

I'm looking for a comic which depicts the breakdown of social norms in a cubicle farm and the subsequent progression to something like neolithic (primitive) life in the building. I remember a person tying a necktie around their head, a couple copulating on a desk, and plants being grown in cubicles (or maybe out in a parking lot).

Someone stole items from our mailbox!

Someone apparently opened a package in my mailbox and stole the mp4 player I had ordered from e-bay. There was no indication on the mailing envelope what the contents were: The person must have felt the package and guessed what it contained. They left the ripped open package on our porch, along with some other mail, and two Netflix envelopes, ripped open also, for a person further up the street. What do we do about this?

What are some good allowable tax deductions under $1000 in Australia?

I have a small home based computer business in Australia and need some allowable tax deductions. I understand that assets such as office furniture, plant & equipment are immediately tax deductible (don't need to be depreciated) if they're under $1,000. What are some things I could buy for my home office to reduce my tax? Thanks in advance

Is office surveillance demoralising?

I have just shelled out for a quite pricey IP camera for the office I remotely manage, but I'm having second thoughts installing it. I run a small business, 3 staff, and I have moved away from the city and visit only once a fortnight or so. I trust the staff, but it's the type of qualatative work where it is very hard to track the amount of time spent on each task, so I'm thinking of adopting some camera or tracking software. Would it do more harm than good? I feel like I have a right to keep tabs, but also it seems quite disrespectful. And I am wondering about the ethics of tracking keylogs or screen captures. Any and all thoughts appreciated

How to show and voice a presentation on a PC?

I am having real trouble recording presentations on my Windows Vista laptop. I have this killer presentation on Open Office Impress and have CamStudio and Audacity. But, Audacity keeps crashing and I can't get CamStudio to record the entire screen. When I set "Full Screen" it just records a corner of it. I am wracking my brain trying to figure out a way to make this presentation work. I also have a Flip Mino and a slideshare account but I don't want to put the presentation online as its a course audition and very rough. Suggestions???
