Is there some sort of etiquette in getting a second medical opinion?

I haven't had many medical problems over the course of my life, but recently I had two (separate) "emergency" hospitalizations for a condition that I had been unaware that I had/have. (Complicated diverticulitis with perforation). Both hospitalizations were truly harrowing and have pretty much turned my life upside down. Very serious! In the hospital (the 2nd time) a surgeon who was on call told me that it really is not a matter of if I need surgery, but when I need surgery. (He says I need a colon resection). [more inside]

Misbehaving fonts in Office 2011 Mac

So the long and short of it is, I'm pretty sure that Meiryo UI is messed up or missing or something, and instead Office 2011 on my Mac has decided that it'd be totally cool to use Mart Futomaru Gothic instead for most Japanese text display, including all over Excel. Form with Numbers and Text

I want to create a form with Open Office that lets me enter numbers in the right column of a page that corresponds to the text in the left. I want to be able to past the entire text document into the right column and have the left column remain blank for my entries. A spreadsheet won't work because the text won't word wrap. I've also tried a table and inserting a column into a text document. I've also tried to write in the margin, but I'll be moving a lot of documents, so I don't want to do a lot of specific typing, which would likely be spread across thousands of pages of documents. I'd like to automate and past as much of this as possible. Think of how books of poetry or philosophy number each line of corresponding text, making it easy to find a specific verse. That's the form I want to create. Or if it has already been created and exists somewhere, I'd gladly download it. Help.

Shipping container office in London?

I'm a PhD student based in London. I would like my own private office space and yesterday I had the idea of renovating a 20ft shipping container and using it for this purpose. Essentially it would need a desk, an office chair, a few shelving units and an external power source. As for location, almost anywhere is fine provided it's within an hour or so of my home in North London... wasteland, an industrial estate... it doesn't really matter. How viable is this? And how much would I be looking to spend in order to achieve this, taking into account land costs / rent etc?

If a person is acclaimed, is it OK to say said person is elected?

ResumeFilter: Jane MetaFilter runs for an elected office in her student government. There are initially other candidates, but they end up dropping out of the race and as a result, Jane is the only candidate. As a result, Jane is acclaimed to the position. On Jane's resume, is it fair game to say that she was elected? Or must she say that she was acclaimed? Is it best to compromise -- perhaps to altogether avoid the use of "acclaimed" or "elected"?

Paying for Public Documents by the Government

Is there any research on people who pay for publicly available documents that are bound and sold by the government, not third parties? I was fascinated that when the 911 Commission issued it's report, it flew off the shelves when it was bound and sold by the GPO even though the same report was also fully available online. I'm also not referring to services provided by USSearch or KnowX. I mean, I guess, anything produced by the Government Printing Office that is for sale as a bound document (since they are also public documents), but is also available for free online. I would think if people could repackage and sell publicly available documents, that would open a whole world of new publishing opportunities.

What should I recommend to them ? Laser ? Inkjet, no right ? They'd rather not since space is at a premium there.

How can I select pre-written paragraphs to insert into letter?

I have a scenario where I have to evaluate work performance. There are 5 categories I'm evaluating. Now when the person fails to meet a benchmark, I want to send him a letter explaining why he didn't meet the benchmark. So I have 5 paragraphs (one for each category) that explains what was wrong and how to fix it.
