I need a new phone for the home office. Degree of difficulty: Home phone service is VOIP, so the "base unit" must be in a closet in the living room, but I need speakerphone functionality (ideally a constantly-plugged-in unit, not a handset) three rooms away in the office. [more inside]

So, I'm setting up a small office (3-4 stations). The roadblock I'm running into is the phone system, or lack thereof. My client would rather not drop three grand on it - understandably - but, this limits my options. Any suggestions? Used is fine, but I'm having trouble tracking one down locally. Thanks, in advance. Starting in about a month, my wife and I will both be working from home a fair amount. We are both on the phone a lot. We want to pay as little as possible and are trying to figure out how to deal with the phone situation. I currently use Google Voice and make and receive most of my calls on the home phone, which works well for me. I'm not sure how to deal with the apparent need for 2 phones. Both of us have cell-phones, but we're on the phone so much that we'd rather not be on the cell phones all day. We could obviously just get a 2nd Google Voice number for incoming calls, but I'm not sure how to deal with receiving or making calls while the other person is on the home phone. Thoughts? Should we get a Skype or Vonage number? Just get a 2nd landline? Any good free/cheap options that I'm missing? We're in Portland, OR if that matters. Thanks!
