I work as a web developer in an open space, and unfortunately, I am the type of developers who needs silence in order to concentrate on my code.
This is a small startup, where people leave their music, ringtones, and other noisy devices, open. There's noise through the whole day, and I'm having difficulties to be productive.
I've informed my managers about this, but since they are quite happy with background music, they've disregarded my requests and needs.
How do you cope with such a situation? Are you aware of any good corporate "noise policy"? What do you think I should do?

What are good headphones (specific models) for a corporate office environment? I don't want to use noise-cancelling, but I also can't have the sound leaking out and disturbing people. But I don't want to lose all the low-end bass frequency!

Help me find music for our office that isn't TOO boring. My husband is a home builder and his office is one of the upscale homes he has built. We want to play music through the surround sound system that is "appropriate" to a professional atmosphere in which the public will visit. Right now I have some Michael Buble, some bossa nova, some Three Tenors. Can you guys suggest something upbeat and not too Muzac-y? Thanks.

What's your favorite solution for sharing music (and control thereof) at the office or similar environment? Specifically, some sort of LAN or web controllable "server" type solution?

Office Filter: I need to listen to music while working. However, we cannot use streaming music at my job. Also, I work in a cave and traditional radio gets no signals. I don't own a ton of music and really like Pandora and various NPR stations.
