I am looking for recommendations for a good psychiatrist in Manhattan. It would be superb if this doctor was in-network for Oxford, but it's not absolutely necessary (and seems very hard to find). [more inside]

I'd like to go to a beer bar in Manhattan this weekend. I've always liked Zum Schneider but want to try some place different. Prefer a place that's typically not too crowded on a Saturday around 6pm (that seems early enough to avoid crowds, right?); quiet enough to talk; and ideally, which also has good food. Thanks!

I'm sure my Manhattan (West Village) based niece would adore a food tour as a gift, but I'm overwhelmed with the choices and don't know New York very well. She has traveled much of the world and is an adventurous eater as well. Single, thirty-something, is relatively new to NYC. If you have either specific food tours or operators to recommend, I would very much like to hear. Thanks!

I think I'll take my kids (18 yr. old daughter & her boyfriend; 16 yr. old son) down to NYC for just the day this Sunday. Kids have spent almost no time in NYC and not since they were little, so it's pretty much brand new to them. I only get to go about once every 5 years, so I'm not very familiar.
Son is video game enthusiast, Minecraft, EDM, young for his age, geeky kid. Daughter likes everything and will be gung-ho no matter what we do. Neither of them is particularly into museums. I myself just like walking along the streets, taking in the sights, people-watching, window shopping.
I'm thinking walking around in Central Park, maybe the zoo. Or maybe checking out the highline. But what else should we do with about 5 or 6 hours?
Also, we're driving down, using a rental car. What's the best part of town to park in, and what kind of parking situation would be best?

Do I need to take my recently-acquired formerly-stray kitten
to the vet for a check-up or anything? She had fleas but we washed them off and put a flea collar on her, and they haven't returned. Other than that she seems in good health, and I'm wondering if there's any reason to take her to a vet or not. (I can get her spayed and vaccinated for really cheap, but, a vet visit costs a lot more...)

I'm going to be in NYC Fri-Sun and have arranged to have dinner tomorrow evening with an old friend before heading up to the Bronx (Fieldston, near the Horace Mann School) where I'll be spending the night (so I need to be in a useful place to catch the 1 train or an express bus). I had been thinking of Luigi's
, which was my standby thirty years ago (great cheap Italian food!) and which I was delighted to see was still in business, but they don't serve booze. Any suggestions for a good place in the Columbus Circle area? Must be reasonably cheap: my friend is broke and I'm not exactly flush. [more inside]

I recently started a job that I'm really excited about. Part of the reason I was hired is because I got great endorsements from my references. I'd like to send flowers to the Manhattan offices of each one, but if you have a better idea for a considerate thank you gift for three smart, accomplished women in their late 20s/early 30s, I am all ears! I want to send something nice that makes it clear how grateful I am for their confidence in me. [more inside]

I left my standard blue blazer on another continent and will be speaking in front of a group of 400 people tomorrow in Manhattan. I'll be there by 1pm and don't know where to get something that fits. I'm thinking of a) finding something else a bit more stylish, b) would buy a suit if necessary but doubt it could be ready in time, but I'm open to that if there is a great recommendation.

So I was biking home from work last night and was hit by a fence. It was very windy and a portion of the fence at Grand St. and Center St. in Manhattan blew over onto me. I'm mostly fine, a little bruised but annoyed because it tore my fancy rain jacket. I know I'm going to get a lot of IANAL responses but I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions of things I could do to possibly be remunerated for the jacket by the city.
Here's a picture of the bloodthirsty fence
after I extricated myself and my bike from it.
Any advice much appreciated.

My parents are over 60, don't speak the language, and want to do all the tourist-y things, so location is very important. My brothers and I are laid back and want to enjoy city life so we are looking for a neighbourhood with interesting things to do. [more inside]

I'm going to be in Manhattan this week, and need the power of the hivemind. I'm staying with friends for the weekend, so I don't have (or need) hotel reservations for Friday. This creates the problem, however, of where to work remotely while I'm there.
I understand that the NYPL is great for working... as long as you're quiet. But if I needed to voip conference with the rest of my team without annoying people around me (and being able to hear them in turn), without the benefit of a hotel room... where should I go?
Preference for being easy accessible from NYPL branches, which is where I'm planning on spending most of my time.
I saw the link to open wifi NYC
in a previous post, but that only solves part of the problem.

So I've found myself in a bit of a sticky situation and need advice. I recently subleased a studio in Manhatttan for a couple of months (April and May) from a guy ("John") whose lease expires at the end of May. He seems like a decent, reliable guy. He said that he's moving back home for a while to start a company (different state), and that he recently quit his job (financial services industry, upon looking him up myself). On move-in day, after helping him pack his car, he gave me the keys and was on his way. [more inside]
