I'm taking a four day trip to NYC over Memorial Day weekend (solo). I have plans on Sunday evening but other than that, my time is completely unaccounted for. And aside from a few non-specific ideas, I'm overwhelmed by choices. [more inside]
Looking for recommendations for places to get waxed in NYC (Manhattan preferred). I have tried Bliss and Uni K; looking for other suggestions. Thanks!
My wife, a friend, and I are traveling to New York in a couple of weeks. A few days ago my wife broke her ankle, and she'll be in a lower-leg cast and on crutches during the trip. Her orthopedist has approved the travel. We're looking for advice from people familiar with the places and activities we had planned, particularly people who have experience doing so with limited mobility. Details below. [more inside]
My routine has changed recently and I need to be able to shower at the gym, and I'd prefer a gym where I can change afterward in private. Does one exist in lower Manhattan? [more inside]
Boy, did I mess up my knee. A sudden wrench, and . . . . it has since healed to the point where it basically doesn't hurt for regular walking and standing, but when I put any kind of sideways pressure on it or put weight on it while it is bent (as when going up or down stairs) it is extremely painful. This has been going on for a few months now and not improving, so perhaps it is time to go to the doctor. Can anyone recommend a good orthopedist in Manhattan? Thanks.
I'll be in NYC from Jan 22 - Jan 24 and am overwhelmed with excitement and also panic about What To Do and What To Eat. Can you tell me what you love to do and eat given my wide range of interests? [more inside]

My parents and brother are coming to NYC, where I live, for Christmas this year. Thankfully, I'm not having to house them (as I would be unable to do so) but I do need to have some ideas for where to go, etc. The only one that's really stumping me is where to take them for Christmas Eve services. On a Sunday in September, we have a six hour Amtrak layover (11 am to 5 pm) at Penn Station, with our nine year old son in tow (so, probably 4 and a half usable hours). I know we can get to the top of the Empire State and back pretty easily, is there something else quick and easy we should do during that time?
I live in New York City and I have a friend coming into town in a few weeks who is going through alcohol recovery. I'm looking for things to do in the city with them that lessen the presence of alcohol in the environment. [more inside]

its been so long since I had to book spaces for shows in NYC that I have no idea who to even contact for possibly hosting a one man show later this year -- What small venues in NYC should I be talking to about hosting a one man show at somewhat last moment (less than three month notice)? Seating capacity round 60 - think bar with generous back room rather than theatre.

I'm headed to NYC for the weekend and would like to spend part of a day relaxing at a spa, with massage, sauna, baths, the works (think Aire Ancient Baths or Russian Baths, for two I've considered). Where, based on your experience (preferably personal) will I be least likely to stick out as a woman who's a size 22? [more inside]
We've been looking to purchase apartments with a broker based in Washington Heights, starting in upper Manhattan, but have now shifted to southern Brooklyn. In the neighborhood that we're focusing on now one brokerage seems to list 75% of the apartments for sale. Are we putting ourselves at a disadvantage because we're 1 - not using a broker from the area (though our broker is very nice and has been very helpful 2 - not just going direct to the local brokerage and asking them to represent us (even if they're the listing agents on a property)? I'm taking my Mom out for lunch on May 23rd. Normally she'd like to just eat at the bar around the corner when visiting but it's the 'Mothers Day' lunch so I'd like to go up a few notches. Ideally I'd take her to the Central Park Boathouse but they don't do reservations on the weekends. Where can I take her in town that's sufficiently 'nice' to be a special occasion but not overly fancy/exotic/hip and has a full lunch-y lunch menu, not just an egg- brunch? [more inside]
I'm looking for a new doctor in North Brooklyn or downtown Manhattan (along the L line would be ideal). He or she needs to take Oxford insurance, and most importantly, needs to have evening or weekend hours because I can't miss any work right now. [more inside]

Where would you meet a friend if all you wanted to do was sit and chat and read and people watch? Preferably in Manhattan but rest of NYC fine too — and must serve hot chocolates. [more inside]
We're thinking about making a quick visit to Manhattan the day after visiting my family in the Hudson Valley for Christmas. Is this a bad idea? If we decide to do it, what (other than the Midtown Xmas dept store display / Rockefeller Center sights, which I know about) would be good activities, including cheap but yummy lunch options, we might not have thought of. For reference, we visit NY a couple times a year, have done so by both train and car, just not usually at the holidays.
I run a city-wide trivia company that's been growing pretty quickly in the last few months. It's a business that requires a lot of printed materials (answer sheets, handout rounds, prize certificates, promotional posters, that sort of thing), and we could use a regular, friendly place that won't gouge us. So I've always wanted to go on Calvin Trillin's walking tour of NYC hole-in-the-wall food in Chinatown, Little Italy, etc. But why should I pay $150 to get his recommendations, when I can get yours for free? Tell me the about your favorite Manhattan ethno-culinary delights! We're visiting in October.

Lots of home movies, some are super-8, some are tapes, some are mini-DV tapes, etc. I'd like to get them put on DVDs that I can then easily edit. I'm in Manhattan, NYC. thanks (oh a long time ago there was another question like this and somebody suggested a mail-order place, but I don't feel comfortable sending off my precious home movies from the 1950s etc. away)
Pottering around NYC: I work near 34th St/Herald Square and have huge gaps in my work schedule. Help me find nearby places (walking distance or only a couple subway stops at the most) where I can escape the office? Slightly narrowing constraints inside: [more inside]
There are old questions about this topic but I am looking for updated information and suggestions about strip clubs in Manhattan or Brooklyn. [more inside]
We're thinking seriously about buying a place in Manhattan (and possibly Brooklyn). We have a fairly unique split search (one strand of which is focused on looking for a place that will lower our costs, and the other strand of which is focused on finding a place that might increase our costs a little bit). We need recommendations for honest, intelligent, and very capable real estate agents to help. [more inside]
I'm looking for "hiking boots" that realistically will be used mostly on city streets. I mostly care about walking on slick cement or tile (e.g., many subway stations, fancy lobbies) without slipping, and about stepping into puddles without soaking my socks. A few times a year I may also wear them on a spring or fall day hike, so I'd rather they weren't heavily insulated, but otherwise actual hiking should be a secondary consideration. What features should I look for, and where would be a good brick-and-mortar store in Manhattan to buy them? (I have funny-shaped feet, so I want to try out a few options without waiting multiple round trips for shipping. Also, helpful staff would be a plus.)
I am looking for recommendations for a good psychiatrist in Manhattan. It would be superb if this doctor was in-network for Oxford, but it's not absolutely necessary (and seems very hard to find). [more inside]
I'd like to go to a beer bar in Manhattan this weekend. I've always liked Zum Schneider but want to try some place different. Prefer a place that's typically not too crowded on a Saturday around 6pm (that seems early enough to avoid crowds, right?); quiet enough to talk; and ideally, which also has good food. Thanks!
My girlfriend and I are thinking of re-signing a twelve-month lease, but we know we don't want to stay for the entire lease. How likely will we be able to sublet our Long Island City apartment, just across the river from Manhattan? [more inside]

I'm sure my Manhattan (West Village) based niece would adore a food tour as a gift, but I'm overwhelmed with the choices and don't know New York very well. She has traveled much of the world and is an adventurous eater as well. Single, thirty-something, is relatively new to NYC. If you have either specific food tours or operators to recommend, I would very much like to hear. Thanks!
I think I'll take my kids (18 yr. old daughter & her boyfriend; 16 yr. old son) down to NYC for just the day this Sunday. Kids have spent almost no time in NYC and not since they were little, so it's pretty much brand new to them. I only get to go about once every 5 years, so I'm not very familiar. Son is video game enthusiast, Minecraft, EDM, young for his age, geeky kid. Daughter likes everything and will be gung-ho no matter what we do. Neither of them is particularly into museums. I myself just like walking along the streets, taking in the sights, people-watching, window shopping. I'm thinking walking around in Central Park, maybe the zoo. Or maybe checking out the highline. But what else should we do with about 5 or 6 hours? Also, we're driving down, using a rental car. What's the best part of town to park in, and what kind of parking situation would be best?
I'm a fresh college graduated from a European academy for Graphic Design and want to move to NYC to gather more experience in the field, and live there for a while. Question about job search and accommodation. Considering doing a masters degree too. [more inside]
