My friends and I live in NYC. We want to spend a night at a local beach (Far Rockaway, Sandy Hook, Fire Island, whatever). Ideally, this would consist of a trip via public transit to a beach, and then staying at a reasonably priced hotel close to said beach. If possible, we'd like to avoid renting a car or splurging on a vacation rental.

This question but for NYC midtown. Coming up on an anniversary and need to escape our apartment and find a room with a hot tub! Preferably without selling a kidney. Super bonus points if you can also recommend a place to buy super-soft women's PJs in NYC.

How do large companies decide where to hold meetings in a big city like NYC? There are hundreds of options if not more. Has anyone participated in this process and can you please shed some insight?

I am at JFK waiting to fly to Bermuda. Most likely, my flight is going to be cancelled due to weather in Bermuda. In the event my flight does get cancelled, what is the best thing to do regarding finding a room for the night that isn't going to be dodgy? I have had a look at rates in Manhattan and even something as simple as the Courtyard Marriott on 3rd is going for $450 a night. Should I stay near the airport? If so, where? Do I have any leverage on such short notice? Can I just call the hotel, and say 'Hey, I need a room, if its not you, its gonna be someone else. What's the best rate you can give me?' Help me find a decent place to stay and not pay an arm and a leg in NYC.

Four western ladies are gathering in NYC in October. We're from Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada; the "other coast" is foreign territory for us! We'd like current wisdom on finding a reasonably priced hotel, with rooms that sleep four, in Manhattan, or Times Square, or the Upper East/West Side.
We'll be happy with only the basic amenities.
Also, what places/activities should take top priority in a brief visit? Our group is comprised of three 30-somethings...and their mother :-).
Thanks in advance!

Hotel recommendations needed for NYC. Ideally downtown. Not crazy expensive, but it's for my parents, so it needs to be fancier than a backpacker's hotel/hostel (eg, private bath, not too noisy, clean, etc). Many thanks!

I'm planning a trip to New York with my girlfriend in March of 2008. We're leaving with a bus that stops at Port Authority. I'm wondering what are some moderately priced near by hotels that we could check into.

I have to be in Manhattan Dec 6th - Dec 9th. My flight is booked and my appointments are scheduled. I am flying solo. My plan was to stay in Manhattan, and goof off after my appointments. Unfortunately, every hotel in Manhattan for those days is $600+ a night. Ordinarily I can Priceline $150 and get bites, but even after a $250 bid, I got nothing on a 3 / 4 *. So......where should I stay and still be able to explore Manhattan without freezing my ass off?? I can be a bit of a snob and would prefer not to stay in something lower than 3*. Any secret Manhattan hotels that I can get into that are not sh*t holes? Brooklyn? New Jersey? Connecticut?

What's the best high-end place to stay in NYC? I'm not looking for absurdly priced penthouse rentals, just a weekend stay in NYC that's somewhat more unique than a Hilton. I'm specifically looking at the Soho House and have family that raves about the Waldorf (a little too blueblood for me). Any suggestions?

Anyone have a favorite hotel in Manhattan? Myself and a few mates are all meeting up in NYC for a getaway weekend and are looking for a cool place to stay, somewhere in the $150 - $300 / night range. We are all in our late 20's / early 30's, like to shop, party, eat, and chat up classy single women. Any places that might fit that bill?
