I'm heading to NYC for a short, 5-6 day trip starting tomorrow! I did a bit of planning myself, but I'll be on kind of a tight budget (I'm staying with a family member in Queens). Any fun things I should check out while I'm there from July 17 - 22? I love: music, food, festivals (of any kind) and especially anything comedy-related. Thanks!
I am currently visiting NYC and am moving here soon. I thought it would be helpful to know where to get cheap food - I won't be making too much money and am looking to move to Queens, Brooklyn or Inwood/ Washington Heights. Does anyone have any recommendations, even if not in those areas? [more inside]

I left my holiday vacation planning until the last minute and I'm at my wits' end as to where I can take a warm, relaxing vacation at any time between Dec. 21st and Jan. 5th without spending my life's savings. Any ideas or frugality resources? [more inside]
I'm going to be in NYC Fri-Sun and have arranged to have dinner tomorrow evening with an old friend before heading up to the Bronx (Fieldston, near the Horace Mann School) where I'll be spending the night (so I need to be in a useful place to catch the 1 train or an express bus). I had been thinking of Luigi's, which was my standby thirty years ago (great cheap Italian food!) and which I was delighted to see was still in business, but they don't serve booze. Any suggestions for a good place in the Columbus Circle area? Must be reasonably cheap: my friend is broke and I'm not exactly flush. [more inside]
I recently saw "The Best of Everything" at HERE, and it was wonderful. What other Manhattan or near-Brooklyn venues can I check for cheap, well-done theatre that is funny and yet not without substance? [more inside]

Last Second Super-Specific Costume help: I finally hit in an outfit idea that excites me, but it requires a large amount of cheap costume jewelry ( rings, brackets, and necklaces). Where do I find a lot of varied, disposable junk jewelry for not a lot of money without spending hours trolling flea markets and wholesalers? In the NYC area. [more inside]
Where can I get a cheap, free-standing coat rack in NYC? I need to get it today or tomorrow. I would like something $70 or less. I don't own a car, so this needs to be someplace in Manhattan or Brooklyn that's easily accessible by taxi or subway. [more inside]
Can we have any semblance of a wedding in the NYC area when we're not rich? Do you know any dirt-cheap event spaces in Brooklyn or Queens that we can use to accommodate 75 people? Catering and decorating tips for the impoverished? We've got 13 months to plan, lots of motivation, but the piggy bank is low. [more inside]

A couple of my friends are coming to New York to visit near the end of July, and we want to take in a show (preferably a musical). We're all students and we're trying to find cheap tickets, but we want to have this sorted out in advance instead of waiting to buy tickets day-of. Does anyone know a good way to do this? I'm in New York if it's something that needs to be done in person, although through a website would be preferable. We're just looking for good deals or discounts, or something. Also I know nothing about Broadway, so recommendations for fun shows would be very welcome!

Help me pick out the best play, opera, lecture and art exhibit to see this winter in NYC. I'm a lowly wage slave who can't shell out $300 to see every Broadway sensation that comes to town, so I'd like to attend one incredible event in each category with a high return-on-awesome factor so I can walk away cultured but not impoverished. I have to be in Manhattan Dec 6th - Dec 9th. My flight is booked and my appointments are scheduled. I am flying solo. My plan was to stay in Manhattan, and goof off after my appointments. Unfortunately, every hotel in Manhattan for those days is $600+ a night. Ordinarily I can Priceline $150 and get bites, but even after a $250 bid, I got nothing on a 3 / 4 *. So......where should I stay and still be able to explore Manhattan without freezing my ass off?? I can be a bit of a snob and would prefer not to stay in something lower than 3*. Any secret Manhattan hotels that I can get into that are not sh*t holes? Brooklyn? New Jersey? Connecticut?

I'm a college student, being flown up for a job interview in Manhattan this Friday. I asked the firm I'm interviewing with to schedule my return flight for Saturday morning instead of Friday night so that I can explore the city, but now I'm finding out how expensive lodging in the city is.
