Looking for a restaurant in Williamsburg that can accommodate about 10 people on a Saturday night in June, for a bachelor party. Will not be a stereotypical raucous, wasted BP crowd, but would like someplace laid back. More details inside.

I live in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and have noticed that, over the past several months, a sizable number of clothing donation boxes have appeared on sidewalks and in little disused nooks of urban space. There are three on my block alone that have sprung up, seemingly overnight, within the last couple months. What's going on?

I live in Brooklyn, sans garage, and have recently gotten it into my head that I want a small used car for occasional driving... I'm talking about the few miles to my office a couple times a week, maybe to the beach on weekends. Perhaps as far as the Jersey shore once or twice a summer. I do not intend or need to use it as a daily commuter. Seems pretty simple, only catch is... I am infatuated with the idea of getting a mk1 Toyota MR2.

When I lived in Chicago, there was a great late-night coffee shop called New Wave Cafe in Logan Square that was perfect for after-work writing. I've been having a hard time finding a similar spot since moving to NYC. It doesn't need to be a coffee shop, but it does need to be well-lit enough that I can read, and calm enough that I won't be seen as preventing the establishment from doing business. Bonus points if the place has a neighborhood-y feel with a friendly staff. I live in Greenpoint, work in SoHo, and usually commute via bicycle over the Williamsburg Bridge. Any suggestions, Metafilter?

I love to stop and draw when I take walks in New York. I'm inspired by architectural details and monumental perspective, contrasts of space and light. Usually I wander aimlessly until I find an interesting spot to sit with my sketchbook, but that's a bit tougher when it's 20 degrees outside. I'm in the process of setting up weekly sketching adventures with a novice artist friend, and I feel there should be some planning involved. Help me compile a list of potentially inspiring places we can sit and sketch in the city without our fingers freezing off.

Is there a bar or other space in Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Long Island City where I can reserve a private room with a TV for a get-together to watch the Olympic Opening Ceremonies? I am not looking to pay for an entire event, just reserve a private space with a TV and proximity to a bar where my friends can buy drinks.

I thought it might be fun to race around like giddy kids with my wife for her birthday. she loves Formula one and has expressed an interest in racing go-karts. We both can drive but do not own a car as we live in brooklyn and have no need.
Any ideas on where to race go-karts near nyc?
(I found this place: gpny.com, and it seems to fit the bill..but are there other options?)
Anyone else had any similar experiences trying to find place to race?

What NYC or Brooklyn-specific gift can I get for twin girls age 4-5 who I 've never met but know they have everything, are probably reading beyond their age level, etc. My budget is around $20-30 total. I don't know anything about this age group or whether the parents are pro/against princess/barbie stuff and I'd like to avoid gender-stereotyping gifts anyway. Ideas? Thanks!

All borough-wide recommendations appreciated, though anything located in Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, Prospect Heights and DUMBO are most desired.

I live in a pre-war (1920's?) Brooklyn apartment building. Recently, the ceiling in the kitchen collapsed due to a leak in the pipes above, spreading plaster, dust, and wet and dry gunk everywhere. Now the landlord has completed a shoddy-looking repair, again leaving everything in the kitchen covered in dust and powder and sticky gunk. Every. Single. Thing. Two questions: how do I find out if we are in danger of asbestos exposure? How do I proceed if we are?
