I recently set up my old late-2007 Macbook Pro to dual boot OS X and Ubuntu. I'm very new to Ubuntu, and while mucking around I think I seriously screwed something up with my graphics card. Is there any way to fix it? Despite the problems these older Macbook Pros have with graphics cards, I am almost certain it is not hardware-related.

Is my (partner's) laptop display kaput? It alternates between a blank screen (although the backlight is on) and strange wavy pink-green effects.
The system outputs to an external monitor, and I've updated the bios and display drivers. I have also taken off and apart the screen to check the cable connections, with no change. What's happened? Motherboard? Display? Cable? Specs inside.

It's that time of year again - the great new pc games have started rolling out and last year's hotness will not cut it. I currently have a Radeon 5850 - Would you upgrade by getting a second card and running them in Crossfire, or would a slick, new, confusingly-named, single card be a better investment?

I'm planning to buy a new video projector, and thought that while I'm at it I should buy a 3D-ready projector so that in a couple of years when there are more 3D movies available, I'll be ready to watch them. Ultimately I think I'll end up getting a new PC with Blu-Ray and probably an NVidia card to play 3D Blu-Rays,
as per this AskMeFi thread. But do I need to get a 3D-ready projector with HDMI, like this
Acer P1200? Or does HDMI not matter? I don't want to end up buying a projector only to find I can't plug it in to the right source a year down the line.

I don't need 3D, vertex shaders, or built-in OpenGL. I won't be "gaming". I don't need a graphics card that needs its own special fan. My computer is based on the IBM x86 PC; it has white PCI slots and possibly a yellowish AGP slot.

Good video card option for three monitors (Windows 7)? I only have PCIe-16 and PCI. Right now I have a dual-head PCIe card and a single head PCI card, but that PCI card is a drain. I need a solid three-headed PCIe-16 card. I'd like to stay in the neighborhood of $300 or less.

I've just bought a second-hand Shuttle XPC computer with an Nvidia sound card. One fault is bugging me: no sound through the analogue audio outs or headphone sockets on the front or back, even when the operating system volumes are set to maximum. However, I have been told that the previous owner used the optical audio out. Is it possible that he could have disabled the analogue sound somehow? If so how might I re-enable it?

For about a year now, I have been having major problems with my home built PC. In the middle of 3D games (of any kind really), it will freeze for at least 10 seconds, sometimes more. Sometimes it will give me back control, sometimes it will reboot. More recently, it will blue screen (referring to
nv4_disp) if it does not give me back control. During that freeze time, the sound will continue for a few seconds and then repeat like a skipping CD for a few seconds.

I've got an nVidia nForce 570 motherboard with 5 drives (500 GB each -- 465 GB actual) in a RAID-5 array. The RAID has been working well in Vista until yesterday, when my system froze. Now nVidia's Storage control panel reports a "Healthy" array with 5 drives but with a capacity of only 465GB (rather than the expected 1.81 TB). Can this be fixed?
