My wife was a hit by a car while riding her bike. She broke her leg in 5 places, had 4+ hours or surgery and now has a titanium rod in her leg. She is getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Some suggestions for helping this self centered, busy person become an effective home health care aide?

I don’t know whether to be an doctor or go into an allied health field, like physician’s assistant or nurse-practitioner. I want to be in-between Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman and the guy who gets his door knocked on by the gangster late at night and then takes the bullets out on his kitchen table: a healthcare provider who serves a community and is able to really make connections with people. I'm curious about goat bras.
I've seen a lot of goats wearing bra-like things (like
this), and I'd like to know what, exactly, the function is. Protect the teats during lactation? Keep them from dragging in the dirt? Keep the baby goat from nursing? My animal husbandry experience is pretty limited, but I have faith that somebody on Metafilter has cared for goats.

Help me get some perspective about my life and career. Is it stupid to make career decisions based on world trends that haven't happened yet? Or is it stupider to make plans based on the idea that everything will stay pretty much the way it is going?

I'm finishing a master's program in the next few weeks and I'm feeling horrible about my experience acquiring it. I did a 2 and a half year accelerated nursing program that led into a master's to become a
nurse practitioner. I am really excited about the field and looking forward to where the degree can take me, but the last year and a half (the master's portion) of the process was so emotionally damaging I'm not sure how to move on!

My mom went to visit my 96 year old grandmother in the nursing home today and found her slumped over in the wheelchair, drooling, clammy and unresponsive. The nursing staff said this had happened before (we were not informed then). They didn't think she had stroke, only possibly that her blood pressure had dropped. However, it was within normal limits when they got her back into bed. She was able to say "no", when asked if she was in pain. The only medication she is on is aricept. Aside from her age, what would cause her to lose conciousness like this?

I'm a former (er, trying to be former, at least) graphic designer and web idiot, now attending school to become a registered nurse. What I'd really like to do, tho, is eventually work somehow in the area of criminal justice, whether it's directly with victims of crime (and that would be preferable) or not. Help?

Nursing advice before I keel over? We've got an almost-two-week old here at home, and if she could she'd nurse (for comfort as well as food, I know, but there are no indicator lights to tell the difference) around the clock. If we thwart her drive to be hooked up every moment when not in deep sleep, it's howling time. We're trying every soothing trick in the many books to get her to calm down when not latched...

Breast Feeding Filter: 32 years ago, (1974),when I was pregnant, I discovered, in the Whole Earth Catalog, a wonderful device called a 'breast cup' or 'milk cup'. It was plastic, shaped like a hollow ball wth a circular hole on side, with that side pressed in so the space was fairly narrow. I wore it on one side while nursing on the other, especially early on, - I caught the leaked milk,

Help me make my hard working wife's feet happy. My wife is a surgery nurse and is due for a new great pair of nursing shoes. We'll be in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area in a few weeks. Anyone have any recommendations on a great place to buy such a pair of shoes in that area?

My wife is thinking about going back to school to become a nurse. She has a BFA and is a fairly high level manager at a wireless company. We had a close friend die 6 months ago and she as felt a great need to do something more meaningful to her. We live in the NYC area. Is there a "best" nursing school local to NY? What sort of classes will she need to have completed to get into nursing school?

GradSchoolFilter: After a lot of soul searching, I've decided I want to change careers. I think I'd like to become a Nurse Practioner. I've already registered for a few prerequisites and will begin classes in a few weeks.
The problem is, although I went to a top-notch school for my undergrad degree, I have less than stellar grades - about B- average.

Are you a nurse practitioner? Know one? My fiancee is in the very beginning steps to becoming one and we'd like to hear from you: what's your day like? Do you enjoy it? And-- do you need to become an RN before becoming a nurse practitioner? We've heard different opinions on it. Any and all information/opinions appreciated!
