I have a verbal month-to-month lease in Chicago, IL (there is no signed paper lease). I want to move out by March 1st (a few days from now). So there will be no 30 days' notice possible. What happens in this situation, with the deposit, etc? (more inside) and how do I deal with the landlord? [more inside]

I just landed a new job, but they want me to start ASAP! Can I give a resignation letter to my old boss effective immediately or does good manners dictate that I MUST provide two week notice? I am/was a part-time employee at a law office, basically one step above an intern. [more inside]

I have questions about finding a new job whilst working my current one and hating it. And changing careers. And what to say to recruiters so that I don't end up in an office environment like this again. And questions about references. Sigh. Oh and guilt. [more inside]

Woo hoo! Just one month left in my bad apartment. Since management now knows I'm not re-signing my lease for a second year, my apt. will need to be shown (by brokers) to potential new tenants this month. Are the brokers required to make appointments with me, or can they show up whenever they want? If they knock without notice am I required to let them in? [more inside]

My employment agreement specifies a mutual notice-giving of 30 days between myself and an employer should either of us wish me to move on, but Virginia is an at-will state. How enforceable is the agreement from either direction? I fear that my employer is putting me at a disadvantage with respect to my moving on (It's hard to find potential future employers who will accept 30 days' delay on the start date) that it might end up they won't be held accountable to if they should decide to give me the air. How do I find out if this agreement is at all enforceable? [more inside]
