Looking for cheap squared paper notebooks, available either online or the UK high street (not Staples or Paperchase, I can't get to these easily and Paperchase sucks up all my money) preferably with tough covers. Moleskines are too small and expensive! [more inside]

Day-Timer 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 spiral notebooks, or similar ? My folks are at that age where, for special occaisions, it's best find a gift they can use. My dad obtained my old stock of Day-Timer 3 1/2 x 6 1/2 spiral notebooks - not the dated monthly planner notebooks, but just plain spiral notebooks (the cover says "Day-Timeer Notebooks" which he puts his notes for various projects...... ChillFilter: I'm purchasing a notebook computer to replace my desktop, and have been shopping around for cooler mats (a.k.a. chill mats). Alas, the brand I'm most likely to find at my local electronics outlets, the Targus Chill Mat, is also the brand most likely to generate screams of rage from users. Experiences with alternative brands, anyone? (The computer will be a 15.4" widescreen.) Money is not (that much of) an object.

A relative mentioned in passing an old notebook he used to have with metal covers, about 5" x 8" in size, and with a place to keep a writing utensil inside. Also, the metal covers covered the sides fairly well so it was somewhat water-resistant.

I'm currently looking at notebooks in the UK for the simple things in life - word processing, playing championship manager etc. Maybe the occasional DVD or C&C: Red Alert. Looking around, there seem to be a number of IBM ThinkPad T22's around at around £400 (PIII 900 Mhz, 256Mb, 20gb hd, 14.1 TFT) - does anyone know of any other good deals in the £400-£600 bracket?

I've got a big problem with my notebook PC. The spot into which I put the power cord/AC adapter in the computer (whatever it's called) seems to have been damaged somehow, so now I have to nudge the connection into just the right angle for the battery to start charging at all. The computer works just fine except for this, but the warranty has run out, and my PC needs power! (A) Who can I call about such a problem -- a PC support guy or an electrician or what? (B) If all fails, are there any backup options, like a USB charger or something? I'm desperate!
