A Few Of Your Favorite Things In Northern Kentucky

Moving to Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky: help me find what I like! I'm very excited to report that I'll be moving to Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky very soon. I'll likely be living within 10 minutes of the river on the Kentucky side, so bonus points for answers involving NKY, especially within bicycling distance!

I've scoured the normal channels of information to find what I like (web, city papers, entertainment weeklies), and have found lots. But, as we know, the hive can relate the "whys" like no other resource.

Here's a list of what I like. Tell me whether these exist in or near NKY, YOUR favorite one(s), and why:

Independent Bookstores (especially those that carry zines)
Record Stores (I've visited Shake It!, and it kicks ass!)
Artists' Supply
Independent Coffee Shops
Bicycle Paths
Dog Parks
Organic Grocery Stores / Food Co-ops
Asian, Hispanic, or Middle Eastern Grocery Stores
Thrift Stores
Farmers' Markets
Fresh Meat Markets (heard about Findlay market; anything in NKY?)
Old Pubs, with lots of wood, dark lighting, and good beer prices
Independent Movie Theaters
Restaurants With Killer Specials (like the 99c taco night I found in Ft. Thomas)
Skateboard Parks
Bike Shops, with great repair/tuneup staff
Music Stores (that sell guitars, not CDs)
Small Bars Where Old Black Guys Play Jazz

As always, thanks!

Please tell me about Cincinnati

Cincinnati residents, help me find a place to (possibly) live. I've searched for Cincinnati posts and the last one that was similar to this is a little old and not exactly the same so I'm posting this question. I'm originally from the suburbs of Detroit near Ann Arbor. I've been living in Tokyo for 7 years with a short 6 month period in Chicago. I may be getting a new job in the Cincinnati area and was hoping for some insight on the various neighborhoods.

For anybody that is familiar Detroit, I really like the Ferndale/Royal Oak and Ann Arbor Area. When living in Chicago I was in Rogers Park and enjoyed that area as well. If I could have lived anywhere in Chicago, it probably would have been in Lincoln Park or Bucktown area but I just couldn't afford it at the time.

I've done my best to search for info about the atmosphere of the neighborhoods of Cincinnati, but I was hoping a Cinci MeFite could give give me some of their opinions on their area, or help me get a feel for which areas I may want to look at for housing. Northern Kentucky area is also good. Thanks!

Cincitucky Bound

CincyFilter: Help me find a guide to Cincinnati's neighborhoods that actually acknowledge Kentucky's existence as part of the metro area. We're thinking of buying a house in Cincinnati, and want to check out its various neighborhoods. Problem is, the few "guides" I found are thinly-veiled real estate company sites that describe every neighborhood in glowing (i.e., unrealistic) terms.

To top it off, we'll most likely live on the Kentucky side of Cincinnati (though we'd certainly consider Ohio), but none of the sites I've found include the Kentucky side (Covington, Newport, etc.) in their discussions. Being an Ohio native who has visited Cincy several times, I know that contrary to local belief, it's all the same metro area, but you'd never know it from the info I've found so far.

This page (for Milwaukee) is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. We'll most likely check out the neighborhoods that sound good, compare housing prices and a few other factors, and decide from there. So, guides that describe the neighborhoods in terms of what it's like to live there (as opposed to visit there) would be ideal.
