Traveling during March to North Carolina, Crystal Coast/Southern Outer Banks region, from NYC metro area. Instead of inland, though, we're taking the coastal route (Rts 13/17 south of Philly) with an overnight stay in Delaware. Looking for non-chain restaurants, hiking, history/science, and the cheaper end of antiquing.

We will spending Christmas in family in the Raleigh-Durham area and would like to take a couple of vacation days somewhere within driving distance (maybe 8 hrs max). We are not skiers and tend to prefer low intensity vacations - a few things to do and lots of time to unwind. Any suggestions?

I'm going to be in North Carolina for two weeks over Christmas and, well, bored out of my mind. I want to do a few day hikes or something. Preferably it'd be in the mountains, as I like mountain views and I've never really been to them in NC, but anywhere is fine. I'll be in Chapel Hill, so anywhere within about 2-3 hours of there would be great.

My boss is looking for somewhere on the US East Coast to stay for a holiday for the week from 8th -15th April (ie over Easter). They fly into Dulles and have to be in Charlottesville at some point, but want a week somewhere picturesque and out of the way with fairly upmarket accomodation. They were looking at the Sanderling in Duck, N.Carolina to give you an idea of what they're after but its a bit steep for the days they want. Any recommendations for somewhere to stay, prices around $200 a night for a double (with a view) would be appreciated.
