What is Worth Nominating for the Hugos This Year?

I am eligible to nominate for the Hugo Awards (one of the big science fiction and fantasy awards) this year, and I want to do it right. I have about two months to read more books from last year to broaden my slate - what should I read? I am mostly interested in books, but shorter stuff is totally welcome if its available somewhere reasonably accessible, and feel free to chime in about all the other categories if you have opinions. I feel ok not nominating in, say, graphic novels, because I don't follow them enough to have a sense of proportion, but I am always happy to have interesting new recommendations.

Is it really possible to 'steal' the nomination?

I keep reading rumors of Ron Paul supporters sneaking their delegates into state conventions.

How plausible is it that Ron Paul can get the nomination with this strategy? And if it can't get the nomination, what can he do with all the extra delegates?

Help me prepare for nomination interviews!

I'm applying for the Air Force Academy. I have interviews with my senators today, who will hopefully extend me a nomination. What can I do to make it the best experience possible? What questions should I be prepared for? What should I wear? General interviewing skills I should know? Any other tips about the process that I should know?

Thanks!

How do I nominate a state symbol? After reading this post and realizing my state doesn't have a state dish (at least not according to this page), I would like to nominate a one, but I have no idea where to start on this quixotic journey and the above page tells me nothing about the process.

Can John Roberts be nominated as Chief Justice?

Can President Bush nominate John Roberts for Chief Justice? I mean, I know he can, but would there be procedural wranglings involved? Has he nominated Roberts to a specific associate justice seat or just "to the Supreme Court"? AFAIK, the confirmation process is the same -- can he just say "oh, by the way, I want Roberts to fill Rehnquist's seat upon confirmation, and I'll throw in a justice to be named later for O'Connor's"? Or is Roberts locked into an associate justice spot, and the only way he could become CJ is to be elevated?

I'm watching live coverage of the RNC. Someone from each state is giving a little speech, and then either casting some number of votes for President George W. Bush, or "passing". What is the point of this, and what is the difference between the two choices?
