How can I not get so agitated by my ill parent's moaning? I live with my parents and take care of my dad while my mom works during the day. He has had medical problems that have left him temporarily unable to move around much, and now he has a yeast infection on his butt that is making just sitting painful at times. I can hear him sometimes moaning in pain in the other room. I can't just put on headphones, because I have to be able to hear when he calls me for help. It's having almost a physical effect on me. I get disgusted and aggravated when I hear this, and the stress is keeping me from getting much done. Is there any way I can manage this?

Partly on AskMe's advice, I bought a 2006 Miata. Got a good deal and love it, including the exhaust note. Road, tire and engine noise are part of the deal, I know, but they're louder than I'd like. Can you suggest fixes?

I moved into a loft and the acoustics in the hallway are terrible. If someone walks past my talking to someone else, at a normal volume, I can hear every word, even with the television or music on. It is as if the door is made out of paper. What's worse, is that the opposite is true. When walking past a door you can very clearly hear what is going on inside. Any ideas on soundproofing my place?

I have heard that the electric motor in a household blender continues to be noisy, even though the technology for a quieter one exist, is due to some sort of safety standard. I searched everywhere I can, but couldn't find any literature/ actual protocol to back this up. Does the hive mind have an inkling as to where I could find legit, cite-able sources for this?

My family (husband and 2 toddlers) lives in a town home and noise from our place is a constant concern of mine. We recently upgraded to a four bedroom that was occupied by a little old lady for quite a number of years. The ladies who live on either side of us seem to be very nice, but our second weekend into the new place we had one come over and ask us to quiet down.

The clichéed two-part catcalling whistle that is performed at the sight of a hottie -- almost exclusively a man whistling at a woman -- that sounds

I was driving my '89 Toyota Corolla on a mud road when it bottomed out in a pile of gravel. At first everything seemed ok, but now, when I start the car, there is a loud vibrating noise (louder inside the car than out.) I also get the noise when I release the clutch into first gear, but not the higher gears. It has been a week now: I am not leaking oil or slipping gears and it doesn't seem to be getting worse. Other than the noise the car seems to be driving normally. Can you be my psychic mechanic?

I have a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT V6 Special Edition (http://autos.yahoo.com/2004_hyundai_tiburon_gt_v6_special_edition/) with 53k miles. Recently I noticed an odd sound when I press the clutch pedal. The best way to describe the sound is that it's very much like the rushing air sound you hear when a window is opened. The sound does vary just a bit in pitch depending on how far the clutch is pressed, and the sound stops when the clutch pedal is let back out. I'd swear it sounds like a hole being opened and closed. The sound is very subtle and can't be heard when the radio is up, so I don't know how long it's been there. I first noticed it several months ago and it hasn't changed since then, neither getting worse nor better. As best as I can determine, the sound is coming from the area underneath the pedal.
The transmission seems to be working perfectly and I don't abuse the clutch in any way. Someone suggested that it could be the throwout bearing, but I've watched clips of that sound on-line and it doesn't quite match what I'm hearing.
Any ideas or suggestions?
