Am looking for loan to refinance a paid off, income generating house I have inherited with two brothers. The aim is to get 1/3 of the value to buy out brother M, so it will become co-owned with my other sibling. More inside! [more inside]
I just got denied my car rental in Hoboken because I don't have a credit card (the things you learn ...). How can I get to Hartford right now in time for the Springsteen show tonight? Complication: I have a bag with me that they won't let me take in the venue. [more inside]
My family wants to find something semi-affordable for a last minute rush to see family in Missouri. Airfare is too expensive and seats are short. Amtrak looks about as expensive, and I'm worried about the reliability of long-haul train connections. Would buses work well for our situation, or are we better off driving ourselves even though we don't usually drive more than an hour or two? Special snowflakey details inside. [more inside]

I want to hit the Jersey Shore tomorrow with Spanish tourists eager to explore that culture. Where's an extra evocative/photogenic old-timey spot to spend the day walking around, eating, and generally enjoying one single afternoon? Sunbathing/swimming not possible, she's on meds and must avoid. So...just walking (with hat and sunscreen). Extra points for tips on driving (from Manhat) and parking on a summer Friday. I'm not a sushi beginner, but not a particularly adventurous eater as far as that goes (salmon, tuna, shrimp, etc). I'd love to be able to go and eat omakase. [more inside]
I'm looking for the lyrics of a Mary Chapin-Carpenter song called (I think) "Mama, there ain't no Cowboys in New Jersey". It never seems to have been officially released, and google turns up references to it but no words. I'm really mostly looking for the lyrics, not necessarily a copy. Any ideas?
Hi All, I am a single 30-something guy that will be moving to the central New Jersey area to take a job near Princeton and I am currently looking for a place to live. I prefer to live in a walkable, urban environment where I can walk to restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores. Are there any places like that near Princeton? [more inside]
So has anyone in northern NJ (Essex/Passaic/Bergen counties or thereabouts) recently used a super-detailed, easy to work with home inspection company they'd recommend? Any and all info welcome. Thanks, hive!

We are moving to New Jersey on the Bloomfield / Montclair border. I know nothing about the neighborhoods except their reputations. Help me hit the ground running with things I should know, especially best coffee, food, shopping, parks, health services, business services and other things that wikipedia has left out. Thanks! My 2 friends and I (in our 20s & 30s, 1 gay, 1 lesbian and 1 straight guy) are staying in Absecon, NJ this weekend. We are looking for something more than a secluded beach but less than Atlantic City boardwalk. We plan on relaxing on the beach during the day and finding some nightlife if possible. Can you recommend places nearby with a laid back feel and some activity. Perhaps places like a beach bar, outdoor band, mini golf, good cheap eats, must sees and local delights. We have a car and are open to traveling a half hour in any direction. Thanks!
In order to block out a new writing thing. I'm looking for things that are essentially or unquiely New Jersian in flavor or references that would ping a lifelong resident of the state- types of stores and houses, idioms, vacation spots, regional foods, etc. I'm also looking for media that has the right feel of the Garden State that aren't Kevin Smith movies. I've read this AskMe about New Jersey books already and I've seen The Sopranos. What are other examples of "Only in NJ" things? [more inside]
Hello, I am new in the Real Estate business, and I don't have too many people to ask questions to. I am going to list my parents house for sale as an agent, this woman offered to help guide me through the process if I split the listing with her. She originally wanted 50% of the commission, I told her that was not going to happen, I offered 25%. The way she explained it, is that when my parents sign the listing agreement, both her name and my name have to be on the listing. I am nervous about this proposition, I am wondering if I could somehow get her into a subagency contract for 25%, rather then having her directly on the listing? ------ Thanks, Leon
We will soon be owning and insuring a car in NJ, but are confused about how much coverage we should be getting. How much coverage do we need? [more inside]
What do I put on a car insurance quote form? I am moving (NJ/NY/CA), changing jobs, and going through at least 3 unique stages of driving frequency/behavior over the next few months. And it really feels like most of this isn't the insurance company's business. But clearly I need to put *something* in each field. :) Help? Here are my facts, what parts of this should be put into the form? Work 1) I've worked full time in NY for just over a year now 2) I am unemployed between now and the end of June and for most of August 3) I have a full time, residential job in NY during July 3) I'm interviewing for jobs in CA that will begin in late August/early September and have already gotten at least one offer. But I haven't made the choice yet and won't for at least another month. Location 1) I've lived in NJ for just over a year now 2) I'm buying a used car from a friend in NC (my home state) next week 3) But I'm moving to CA and the car will be parked in CA starting in July 4) I myself will be in NY for the duration of July 5) I will begin renting and driving in CA in August Driving Behavior 1) Between June 1st and June 30th, I'm doing quite a bit of inter-state driving, although not all at once. 2) I'm parking the car and not driving it at all in July 3) I'm using the car to commute in CA in August and beyond [more inside]
Hi, I recently was offered a job on 1st Ave near Grand Central in NYC. I live in Maplewood, NJ which makes for a rather long commute so my wife and I have discussing the possibility of CT or Upstate NY. We really like the culture of Maplewood. It's very diverse and accepting. A lot of families move from Brooklyn and it has a very artsy culture. I was wondering if anyone knows of towns in the NY or CT that have a similar feel?

We're looking to a hire a good balloon twister / balloon artist for my kid's birthday party in Northern New Jersey but we can't find a Yelp equivalent for suggestions, and we don't want to pick one randomly from the Google results. Can anyone give us some suggestions? We're pretty close to New York City so someone from there would be fine as well.
I'm a single, college-educated, mid-twenties male who will very likely be relocating from the West Coast to the Tri-State area in a few months for a full-time desk job in Rutherford, New Jersey. I'd love to know your recommendations for affordable rooms, apartments, studios, etc. in safe and convenient neighborhoods. [N.B. I grew up in and lived in South Brooklyn for many years, so I'm familiar with the NYC area, but I've never lived in NJ nor ever considered living there in the past.] [more inside]

This is essentially a legal question. Is Fort Lee New Jersey within the Port District of New York and New Jersey? The Port District is the area which the two states described the area that the Port Authority would be responsible for controlling on port matters when they set up the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. I want to know if Fort Lee, New Jersey, is within that area. The exact description, which I have no idea how to plot is below. I'm hoping someone can just point me to a document proving it or a map of the Port District with either Fort Lee in or out of the district. Or its so obvious I don't even need to have a map. One of my coworkers said that the PATH will shut down if the snow accumulates past the height of the 3rd rail. But the line is underground (except outside where there are wires above head-height handling the charge) - could that actually happen. Has the PATH ever been shut down due to snow accumulation before?

This is a follow up to this question. I sued my landlord in small claims court (NJ) because I never received my security deposit (after breaking the lease 1.25 months early, but someone else moved in 1 week after I moved out). He did not show up to court on the court date, so I won by default. I now have to contact him within 7 days to ask for the money. What should that letter look like? How do I actually get money from him? [more inside]
Hello. I have scheduled a pregnancy termination for this Saturday, August 17....my ex isn't returning my calls or emails requesting a ride/company, and I really don't want anyone else to know about it. I have been told that I will need a ride home and that I can't take a cab; the driver needs to wait for me. I was wondering if anyone happens to know of any volunteer organizations or similar organizations in NJ that might help me out. I'm happy to pay whatever it might cost....thanks!
I had an incredible milkshake once when I was a kid in the early aughts in southern New Jersey. The ice cream place served enormous milkshakes and had distinctive cow placemats. It was not near the shore; it was probably in a rural or somewhat rural area. What ice cream place was it? [more inside]
After renting a room for almost 2 years, I broke the lease 1.5 months early (gave 1.5 months notice). I ensured that someone else was going to move into my room 1 week after I move out (so my landlord only has a 1 week gap in receiving rent checks). It's been almost 2 months and my landlord hasn't sent me my deposit, and is saying he will only give me 1/2 of it back. Details inside... [more inside]
