Depictions of the 90's Rave scene in books, movies and TV.

I'm working on a writing project partially set in the 1990's underground rave scene in America, and I'm gathering research materials -- books, movies, tv, etc -- that will help me set the stage. I'm interested in both the underground rave scene as it really was, as well as its depiction in popular media, however warped/sensationalized -- basically, anything that could help me build a fully-formed immersive world for my audience, the way Mad Men has done for its time and place. Looking for pc action-adventure game from the 90's

-PC action-adventure game, mostly action, but I do remember simple adventure things like moving blocks or unlocking doors -first person view -can't remember how health stats and weaponry were viewed -Had to rescue a woman (go figure), but not sure if she was royalty or anything, just motivation to do the journey -Started in kobold (or kobolt) caverns, there was a spider cavern section where it was tunnels burrowed by the spiders themselves, a lava cavern/mining level where you had to break down a rock borer (might have been a laser) -mid to late 90's probably because it's graphics were close to Quake 2, just not as smooth [more inside]

Identify this mid-90s hip-hop song?

I'm hoping someone can identify a mid-90s hip-hop track, which for a long time I assumed was by Thirstin Howl III, but now I'm not so sure. The only thing I recall, other than the rapper having what I would characterize as a laconic flow, is a line that rhymed Brooklyn Dodger with Joe Cocker. I distinctly remember the second part of this rhyme being delivered in a sing-song, "I la da da da da like Joe Cocker". (Literally la da da, not a placeholder for something I don't remember.) So, pretty specific right? Anyone?

from whence the look of music videos from the late nineties?

Many music videos from the late nineties, six underground by the sneaker pimps being the most salient example to me, have a distinctive cinematographic feel and style to them, with very high contrast (super dark blacks and popping-out, almost oversaturated whites); a lot of murky brown/green and pops of red/blue. Does this style have a name? Is it a film effect or some kind of post-processing, or both? digital? Why was it so prevalent in the late-nineties, and, correct me if I am mistaken, mostly just for music videos? [more inside]

How can I replicate the experience of the mid-90s web for a curious Generation Z tweenager?

Does such thing as an early web emulator exist? My 12 year-old stepson is learning HTML and CSS, and today I was trying to describe the web of yesteryear (for me, c. 1995-96). I'd love to show some visual aids. I have googled to no avail. [more inside]

Was this a real TV show or am I imagining things?

Was this a real TV show or am I imagining things? Circa early-mid 90's, an American show about a family (maybe just a single dad?) with a few sons (ages between 10 - 15?) that owned and lived at a holiday motel complex. The episode I seem to remember is one of the boys was cleaning or going through a guests room after they had stayed and found a porno mag. [more inside]

Help me find an earworm from a cartoon...

Guv'ner and Jenny Mae

Double-barreled nineties independent musician question: what ever happened to the band Guv'ner and the singer Jenny Mae? Guv'ner's third album was re-released in 2003, but as far as I know there hasn't been a new peep out of either of these acts since 1998. Does anybody know anything different?

Can you name these tunes?
1. This one sounds like movie music, but I haven't been able to track it down.

2. I think this is the bonus track on Spell's "Mississippi" album. Can anyone verify?

3. This was recorded off a college radio station in Lowell MA in the early 90s. It's a mix of a song, and a woman speaking about pleasuring herself (the "I am satisfied" parts..... Can anyone find the source of either?
4. And another one from the same mix tape...

What other song is the sass line in Alizee's 'Moi Lolita' similar to?

Attention mid-90s earworm pop fans: Alizee's "Moi Lolita" was widely released in 2002, but I swear I recognize that bass-line, and it's driving me absolutely crazy. Can anyone figure out what song I'm thinking of? I'm guessing something like Ace of Base, Aqua or even Daft Punk...
