I'm looking for an article or a good explanation for why Nike's basketball shoes are so narrow. Basketball players are some of the bigger/taller people on the planet, so what gives? [more inside]

I received these compression pants
and I would like to use them as running tights. To my mind, the difference between "running tights" and "base layer" is primarily just marketing, but similar models
look like they are really just meant to be underwear. Assuming the ugly waistband is covered by my shirt or jacket, can the pants I received be worn as running tights (without shorts over the top), or will everyone think I'm running in my long johns?

Having now worn this t-shirt for a few years, perhaps it's time I, you know, learned what it says? It's a nike design, bought something like 4 years ago. I doubt it's anything offensive, but one never knows...flickr photo [more inside]

I've recently taken up jogging again, this time with an iPhone and the Nike+ app to track my runs. It seems to be pretty sloppy at tracking pace, compared to my old Nike shoe sensor. It's very smoothed out, so doing intervals, for instance, looks like a sine wave instead of a square wave. Are there any solutions that are better at this?

Does the Nike Fuel Band calculate total calories burned or calories over basal metabolic rate? I have a hard time believing that, at 6:44 PM, I have only burned 376 calories since 12 AM. [more inside]

Nike enthusiasts: How can I create my own Air Force 1 shoes on the NikeID website
? I see that other people
have designed Air Force 1s, but when I try to create my own, I get this message
, telling me the Air Force 1s can only be accessed by certain people. How do I become one of those people?

Help me find the right pair of minimalist shoes! I've been a member of a Crossfit gym for six months, which means I've been exposed to the peer pressure regarding Vibram FiveFingers
. Plus, I'm starting to travel a lot (and lightly
) and want a pair of running shoes that have a small footprint (heh)
when packed in a suitcase. Recommendations for this recreational runner? Are Vibrams a good option? Which model? How do I size them? I'm training for next October's Portland Marathon, if that makes a difference. Bonus points for shoes available at REI (though that's not a requirement).

Are there differences between heart rate monitors (is there a "universal" protocol they all use?)? I want to buy a heart-rate monitor but I see three difference places that I want it to be compatible: with the Nike+ system, with the treadmills and other ("Polar-compatible") cardio equipment at the gym, and with the Suunto technology that Crunch gym uses for its "Red-line" rides. I would love to get a good quality image of the "England in Roo-ins" newspaper that appears at approximately the 1:09 mark in the Nike "Write the Future" ad
. My goal is to take the image, print it onto an iron-on, and make myself a t-shirt for Saturday. Anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Can you tell me which model / style of Nike shoes these are
? (Ignore the boot in the front, I'm referring to the Nike shoes behind the boot.) This photo was taken just a few days ago, so I'm assuming these are reasonably new Nikes.

Where do I buy gym shoes in the (Chicago) Loop? I trashed my Nikes at Lollapalooza over the weekend, and I don't want to show up to my "Personal Fitness Assessment" tonight with busted kicks. I'm at Monroe & Franklin, so the closer to there the better.

I am not a runner or long distance walker, but would I be less tired and achey at the end of a day spent generally on my feet in a 'barefoot' style pair of shoes such as Nike Free or Vibram Five Fingers, or in a regular pair of cushiony shoes? [more inside]

I had a pair of Nike sunglasses that I bought in 1995 or 1996. (I think I bought them at an outlet, so they might have been even earlier model.) They were the only sunglasses I ever bought that looked good on me, and I would like another pair or something similar. Details in extended explanation. [more inside]

I am having a difficult time locating the Nike+Ipod Sport Kit in Canada. Apple.ca doesn't have it listed in their store and Nike.ca is just a horrible [but cool looking] website.
My google-fu is failing me miserably and I was hoping that someone has seen these around.
I called a local [Kitchener] Apple reseller and they say it should be available in 2-3 weeks. My greedy little hands cannot wait that long. :)
Can anyone help?

I'm really interested in the soon coming iPod+Nike
technology: Basically a really high tech way of tracking your running, syncing it with your computer, tracking your progress, interacting with others, etc. However, I'd really kind of like to avoid Nike for it's high prices and other reasons, so does anyone know any other similar high tech products that could help me track my run? Extra points for Mac compatibility.

I'm going crazy trying to find the Nike City Knife II sneakers I wrote about here
(yes, self-link, sorry).
Niketown sent me to Paragon. Paragon sent me to Niketown, or online. Google sent me to my own site! I'm going apeshit!
These shoes must exist, they must: my web buddy Rik Abel spotted them in Brighton (UK) of all places. Since AskMeFi has been so remarkably efficacious in the past - accurate responses, response time on the order of ~10 minutes - I figured I'd give you guys a try before packing my quest in entirely.
