My family is going on vacation to New York in june for 9 days. We want to find a nice apartment in airbnb, but we have no clue on what would be an appropiate neighbourhood. My parents are over 60, don't speak the language, and want to do all the tourist-y things, so location is very important. My brothers and I are laid back and want to enjoy city life so we are looking for a neighbourhood with interesting things to do.

We will have a few nights here and there in Quito. I am looking for Nightlife and restaurant recommendations outside of Mariscal Sucre where we are staying. Music, galleries, etc. Thanks Me-fites.

I will be in Norway (Oslo & Bergen) for 5 days in mid-May. I've found lots of great threads about what to do during the day, but what about nightlife? I'm having trouble finding solid restaurant/bar recommendations, along with music venues/dancing. MeFi, where do the hip kids hang?

In Fresno, CA on business. The boss picked chain Mexican for dinner, so I really need something locally cool to do tonight to make up for it. Any ideas? Oh, our rental is a Lincoln Town Car, so bonus points if it's classy too.

I want to go out dancing/clubbing in Los Angeles, but none of my friends are interested. Where can a 24 year old girl go dancing at night, and walk back alone to her car without much worry? Also, other than randomly walking up to people and awkwardly trying to nudge my way into their circle, how on earth do I expand my horizons and meet/make friends with similarly minded people?

How and where does a chick in her late twenties meet guys in Los Angeles? I'm single for the first time in eons, and I'm just starting to come out of my shy shell, too. I'm looking forward to the casual dating scene, except I'm clueless as to where to go (and what to do)! I *don't* want to try anything internet-related (not even meetups) this time. The internet's always been a crutch for me, and I want to overcome that. I will sometimes be with other friends, but sometimes I'm going to be on my own. Which I'm excited about! ...but a total n00b. Help me figure out where to go and how to attract some attention without desperately clinging to a friend's arm.

My best gal pals and I are heading up to Manhattan for a weekend soon, and we're looking for an excuse to dress to the nines while enjoying a cocktail or two. Whenever we go out as a group, though, we tend to split up and mingle (and, ok, flirt). Of note: we range 31 to 38 in ages, so we're not looking for some barely-legal hipster club scene. What's a good, upscale but sociable, fun but not crazy loud night spot to visit on a Saturday in Manhattan? Does it exist?

Can anyone recommend good clubs in Japan (especially Tokyo) that play music that would appeal to your typical
Pitchfork reader? I'm thinking along the lines of indie electro/pop/rock music, a bit of hip hop in there, and maybe some older favourites.
