I recently accepted an offer for a spot in a full time MPP program from a very decent, non-Ivy school. My funding (per an assistantship or researcher position) reduces the total tuition to approximately $3000, and the program provides an allowance for an unpaid or poorly paid summer internship. I have enough money saved to avoid going into debt if I work part time. I want to offset the opportunity costs of two years outside of work by making myself as employable as possible.

I've been working in my current position for a little over a year now, and I love most things about it. But: I'm very overworked, exhausted, and I can feel burn-out creeping in. If I leave to work at another organization, will I still be just as busy? Is NGO work only for the super-committed?

I've been invited to emcee a gala dinner for a nonprofit. They are paying me for my talents, but I don't have anything other than random guesses about how much to charge, and their initial offer was basically "money is no object," which actually make it harder for me. Are there any resources out there that can help me narrow down a range to work from?

What reputable NGOs offer internships or volunteer positions for summer this late in the year? I am an undergrad in need of an internship abroad (preferably in an Arabic-speaking country) for summer 2010. Really, I'm open to any type of foreign adventure, as long as it involves international travel, has an end product (paper, article, professional experience, etc), and is not insanely dangerous (no traveling to war zones alone, though traveling to war zones with government or NGO support is totally cool). Why did I not apply earlier, you ask?

I am a college student going to school in Manhattan, and I'm looking for an internship for this coming spring semester. I am a third year political science major with interests in technology, development, and journalism. At the moment I am studying and travelling abroad in India and Nepal, and I've gotten pretty much fluent in Nepali. Does anyone know of a cool New York based NGO that might have use for someone who knows Nepali language? General advice on finding NGOs in the New York area to intern for is also appreciated.
