I have a Complete New Yorker DVD set. My current Mac OS (10.7.5) doesn't support it any longer. ("PowerPC applications are no longer supported.") Is there a way to download individual issues on my ipad? (I know that, theoretically, I could go back and look at old issues via the New Yorker app, although it isn't clear how far back the electronic archive goes.) Or is there a way to view this stuff on my current Mac?

Please help me find this poem about a car crash. I think it's from the New Yorker. Two drivers are in a car crash, and then they yell at each other until one of them says "wow, we were both scared," and then they feel better. Well, something like that. [more inside]

James Thurber fans, gather 'round. I'm reading his The Years with Ross
and in the chapter titled "More Miracle Men" is a Thurber drawing of a star above a horse, and the horse is shedding a tear. I can scarcely believe I'm using a question for this, but I greatly wish to know: Why is the horse crying?

My New Yorker Ipad app is crashing and closing within 20 seconds of opening an issue. I wrote new yorker tech support and they sent these instructions but they don't work:
Please try resetting your app using the following instructions.
1. From the iPad home screen, tap twice on the home button and the apps
that are running on your device will appear along the bottom row.
2. Hold down the icons until they "shake".
3. Tap on the red circle to reset your application. This does not delete
4. Double tap the home button again to return to all of your apps.
5. Open the app and allow for your library to update. All of your issues
should now be available for download.
I think they addressed the wrong problem. I've rewrote them but because of the holiday there is no reply. Any suggestions of what to try next? I'd like to be able to read what I've paid for

Help me find an electronic version of this New Yorker cartoon. It was published within the past couple of years and is an illustration of a teacher receiving an apple from one of her students; she says something like, "Billy, I don't want an apple. I want money." Thank you!

I really enjoy reading those anthologies of the best American non-fiction stories that come out every year -- particularly because they a) are easy to finish in 20-40 minutes and b) introduce me to new magazines/writers/concepts. I'm looking for other compendiums of magazine-style writing or articles or suggestions on where to go to find new collections of feature-length non-fiction pieces. [more inside]

A few years ago there was a short story in the New Yorker set in the near future. The characters were children raised in a world where they seemed to be market research test subjects...
I really can't recall any more details than that... Does this ring any bells?

When does your subscribed copy of the New Yorker arrive? I've recently subscribed and it seems that I'm getting my copy well after they hit the newsstands. When did the issue dated 11/14 arrive, was that the usual, and what part of the country are you in?

I'm trying to locate two cartoons (both possibly from the New Yorker). 1 - A group of lost hikers are examining a map. One, pointing to a mountain in the distance, is saying, "I've got it! We're on that mountain over there!" 2 - Tribal setting. A witch doctor wearing a mask and a weeping widow are standing over a dead villager. The witch doctor is saying, "There's still so much we don't know."
I have the Complete Cartoons of The New Yorker CDs, but I can't find either of these cartoons using the search capabilities. If you can give me date and author information, that'd be great.

BigFatFavorFilter: one of my close family members has a photo in the calendar insert of the New Yorker (Dec. 13 issue). The calendars apparently only go to subscribers, though, so I can't acquire it from a newsstand issue. Would anybody be willing to send me their copy of the calendar insert? Please comment -- I'll email you with a mailing address -- and I can reimburse you a couple bucks for postage, too. [more inside]
