I love dancing to 80s (and 90s) music, but with Culture Club now closed, I'm not sure where to go in New York City. Are there any new dance places that are devoted to 80s/90s music, or that have "80s nights"? Thanks!
My best friend's birthday is at the end of this month. We are going to see Adele in concert next month in NYC. I wanted to get her either Adele or concert related gift to begin the excitement. She is early 30's and her interests include all things pink, concerts and Broadway shows, 90's music and boybands, makeup. Dislikes include trying new foods, sports, driving.
I have a date with my visiting from out of town stepsister this Sunday and she wants to go see some live jazz but nothing too avant guard. Please help me look cool by recommending somewhere we could go. She's a music teacher and plays a couple instruments so unlike me she probably knows good from bad. Nice cocktails would be a plus and ideally not to far out as she's staying at a hotel in Times Square.
My friend's parents are going to be in town from June 14-17, and they want to see some Blues. Anyplace with Jazz is apparently a no-go; has be be Blues exclusively. [more inside]
Can anyone explain the relative paucity of New York rappers from the Bronx, particularly since the form was more or less born in that borough? [more inside]
NYC Travel filter: Please tell me where to find out about any of the following: (1) live music of the broadly indie rock variety, (2) unpretentious dance nights, and (3) karaoke. [more inside]
What are some of the best and (most importantly) unpretentious jazz clubs in New York City? [more inside]

The 17-year-old son of a friend from Austria is into hip-hop. He'll be visiting NYC on 7-10 December and wants to know how to find out about concerts, venues, etc. Can anybody tell me the relevant websites to send him to?
Looking for quality goth clubs in NYC, or clubs in NYC with a quality goth night.
My question is pretty specific. I'm a freelance writer. I have zero clips. I'm trying like hell to get noticed, but it's tough. I like to write about a wide variety of things (which may be part of the problem), but one in particular is music. There's a small band coming through NYC soon, and I want nothing more than to break them in print or web. They're playing a well-known and respected venue next month. [more inside]
