What awesome places do you recommend for dinner near-ish Chelsea in Manhattan? We're going to be in Manhattan on Saturday night to see the Iliad at the Lucille Lortel Theatre near 8th Avenue and 26th Street. I'm interested in ramen, and he might be more inclined for really, really good Indian food, but any delicious pre-theater dinner that isn't readily available in smaller US cities will make us both happy.

Sushi or anything seafood heavy probably isn't the greatest idea, given that I'm dealing with a shellfish allergy, but I can deal if it's the best option by head and shoulders.

Max budget of around $30-$40 per person, though we can splash out a bit more for something extraordinary, but time constraints might keep that from happening. Cheap and obscure and linoleum floored would thrill as long as it was tasty.

nyc filter: need advice for a romantic night in the city (on Sat 4/11) first of all, i have been to NYC multiple times before so i can figure my way around the general area without a problem...

that said, gf is currently in nyc and i am coming up from DC to meet up with her/take her out

would like a suggestion for "simple" food -- maybe italian? -- and something else to do -- maybe broadway play? walk? desert? -- on Sat, April 11th.

things to know:
-her hotel is located on times square
-timeline is anywhere from ~6 o'clock-ish until ???
-dont want to break the bank unless i have to haha but if its worth it im all for spending the cash required
-alcohol/wine/drinks is not particularly important
-would prefer that its not TOO far of a walk from public transportation...

thoughts/ideas:
-dinner (obviously)
-broadway play/off-broadway play (but which one is the question)
-dessert (if not a play maybe dessert somewhere else?)

if it was in DC i would have a list of places to go/things to do a mile long -- but NYC is another story entirely...

Where can I get a good cheap lunch in Jamaica, Queens while I'm on jury duty? I've got jury duty in the Jamaica section of Queens on Monday. The courthouse is located on Sutphin Boulevard just north of the LIRR station.

Where can I get a good, cheap lunch within walking distance? I'm very open-minded about food and love the various "ethnic" cuisines. The ideal would be a restaurant that:

*is not crazy crowded

*is cheap -- that is, $8 at the very most

*has good food

*does not have a drive-through window

Those are my criteria. If you know of a good place, please let me know.

I've got a night in NYC on 24 January and want to take advantage of the Winter Restaurant Week USD 35.00 prix-fixe menus somewhere in town but where? I'm probably going to have 3 other people with me, one of us doesn't eat meat but is OK with fish, and we're all staying in Hell's Kitchen. Great food and not-too-expensive wine list could be other considerations...recommendations?

My family and I will be in New York city for the holidays. My mission: to find great restaurants for Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners. I'd like personal recommendations for restaurants for Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Day brunch, and New Year's dinner. We are four adults and two teenagers (ages 16 and 18). Our budget is about $100 per person, per dinner (although I think it should be less for brunch). If we could make reservations online, it would be a big plus.

We'll be staying near the Carnegie Hall. We were planning to go to Times Square for New Year's Eve, but after reading this, I guess we'll go somewhere else.

I go to NYC at least once a month, and I'm always on the hunt for good vegan restaurants, especially in the East Village area, although I'd love to hear about good eats in other areas of the city as well. I've been to Quintessence, Bonobos, and Caravan of Dreams, and I go gaga over LifeThyme, the grocery/bookstore/cafeteria on 7th Ave and 9th St - they have six inch high veggie pizza that's to die for. Are there any more yummy vegan places I need to know about, and if so, what's the most yummilicious thing on the menu?
