I'm a single, college-educated, mid-twenties male who will very likely be relocating from the West Coast to the Tri-State area in a few months for a full-time desk job in Rutherford, New Jersey. I'd love to know your recommendations for affordable rooms, apartments, studios, etc. in safe and convenient neighborhoods.
I grew up in and lived in South Brooklyn for many years, so I'm familiar with the NYC area, but I've never lived in NJ nor ever considered living there in the past.] [more inside]

One of my coworkers said that the PATH will shut down if the snow accumulates past the height of the 3rd rail. But the line is underground (except outside where there are wires above head-height handling the charge) - could that actually happen. Has the PATH ever been shut down due to snow accumulation before?

My dad tells stories of New York tax collectors hanging out in the parking lots of popular New Jersey malls and Ikeas and the like, writing down NY plates and sending estimated sales tax bills or "reminders" for the voluntary portion of their bill. Is this real or apocryphal?

My husband, having lived in 4 states in 4 years, is trying to get a New York State driver's license. Only problem is that apparently two
out of state licenses are still active, and the DMV refuses to give him a license. [more inside]

In 1934, could you travel by rail from New York City to Paterson, NJ? What route would you have taken, with which train-lines? If you could not have traveled by rail, would there have been a bus route?

I live in NYC, I make $60k a year, and I take home about $750 per week, which comes to $39k. This strikes me as ridiculous. Am I not using some deduction that everyone else knows about? Would I pay fewer taxes if I kept my Manhattan job but lived in New Jersey?

I live in Northern NJ and like to stay out late in NYC. My problem is the train's latest return trip to NJ is at 137am. How can I get home later? Is there a PATH station that has ample parking at night? I'm new to the area and would appreciate the help. Thanks!
