Good food, good company - help me get both!

HALP! I am trying to plan a birthday party for two friends but am finding a lot of hurdles. Any suggestions that can accommodate ~20 or more adults in Manhattan (preferably), Brooklyn, or Queens for cheap? The party is for two awesome guys who love good, hearty food. Some suggestions pitched so far:

- Dinosaur BBQ - no reservations available until January :(

- Daisy May's BBQ - reservations available but only for a minimum of $35 a head off of their special menu :( I can risk just having everyone show up without a reservation but with these numbers, that might not work out well.

I'm hoping for a place that's $20 or under per person that's not a bar or club-like lounge. Also, I strongly dislike Dallas BBQ. My group has also done Dave & Buster's to death, so no to that as well.

Thank you in advance!

Birthday in NY

I have a birthday coming up and I want to get friends together to do something besides a house party or going to the bars. I've done karaoke for my birthday in the past. Any suggestions? I want to keep it small this year, probably around 10 people and ideally it would be something where one could drink or at least go to the bars later in the evening. Also, looking for something on the night of March 28 or 29.

What should I do for my birthday in NYC?

What can me & a bunch of friends do for my birthday in NYC? My birthday is coming up towards the end of next week and I'd like to do something for it. Previous years have always been "hang out with the usual friends and dinner with the girl" but this year my friends are in scattered social groups so I'd like to do one of those birthday...thingies. But I'm not a party thrower and not a big fan of house parties anyway. I don't drink so just going out to a bar is really not my thing either.

I've searched and got plenty of questions about "couples" activities but no group ones. Here's what I'd love:

Something really fun - but maybe a little offbeat - for a group of 5-15 to do together that won't cost a lot of money for each of us, isn't restricted to 21 & over, and is pretty accessable from Manhattan.

It will probably be a Saturday or Sunday, but I'm considering begging a day off to give us the chance to do something uncrowded.

Coney Island, bowling & minigolf are on the table so far, but they're all fallbacks and I'd love to hear what you guys can suggest.

unique nyc experience?

Unique New York experience for a couple - beyond helicopter rides? I'm looking for a unique activity in New York for my partner's birthday. It will be just the two of us, and we like it that way -- no touristy/big group/too-trendy stuff. Perhaps some kind of private tour of a hard-to-access place? A very unique dining experience? Our concierge suggested a helicopter ride, but that seems a bit cliche. Something along those lines though would be great. I appreciate any ideas!

Good upcoming folk music shows in the NYC area?

My mother's husband is a big folk music fan, and his birthday is coming up. I'd like to get them 2 tickets to a good folk music show that takes place somewhere in the NYC area before the end of 2005. I've searched sites like pollstar.com, but the amount of information is just too large; conversely, searching the sites of individual venues takes forever, and I don't have a comprehensive venue list, anyway. Any online resources or reliable venues you can recommend?

Muchas gracias!

What should I buy for my NY friend?

I'm in the UK and want to send a present to someone in New York for tomorrow. Help please. I have been looking at flowers but a bouquet is hideously expensive to send from this side of the pond. The birthday girl is a grown up independent woman full of life and mad as a hatter. Looking to spend between 60 and 100 bucks and would prefer something that would be with her tomorrow for special day.
