Seeking an NYC bar for a gathering of around eight people in their mid-to-late 30s. Requirements: quiet enough to talk; spacious enough that we can all congregate in one spot or will take reservations; in downtown Manhattan (roughly speaking); reasonably accessible by subway a big plus. Difficulty: event planned for a Saturday night, around 8 PM, and I don't expect everyone to show up at the same time (which makes reservations tricky). Thanks!
Where can I bring about 20 friends who were planning to meet me tonight in central park for a birthday gathering? Storm clouds are brewing and I need a good backup, like a bar. Help me save the day!!

I'm having birthday drinks in a few weeks and am looking for a lower Manhattan bar that tends to attract a crowd of people in their mid-20s and older. I'm not interested in dive bars, extremely upscale bars or bars with DJs/musical acts. Just a relaxed venue for me and my friends to spend a few hours on a Saturday night. Ideally, the bar should be below 14th St. Any suggestions?
My best gal pals and I are heading up to Manhattan for a weekend soon, and we're looking for an excuse to dress to the nines while enjoying a cocktail or two. Whenever we go out as a group, though, we tend to split up and mingle (and, ok, flirt). Of note: we range 31 to 38 in ages, so we're not looking for some barely-legal hipster club scene. What's a good, upscale but sociable, fun but not crazy loud night spot to visit on a Saturday in Manhattan? Does it exist? [more inside]
I am crazy-excited about Mad Men season 3 airing this week. Unfortunately, my friends and I are frugal New Yorkers who don't get extra channels like AMC. Are there any bars in NYC that play Mad Men where we could actually hear the show? Or are there places where we could rent a TV and a room without going broke? [more inside]

New York City bachelorette party suggestions, please. I'm helping organize a bachelorette party in New York, where I live, but I tend to frequent dive bars and nasty diners. Hence I have no ideas about fun places for a bunch of girls to hang out. [more inside]
