Help The Empress Splurge!

NYC Filter: I'm getting a financial windfall in a couple weeks, and have decided to treat myself: salon, massage, and then taking myself out somewhere. but...I've been broke so long I don't know where to go. Help? I know where to take care of the salon and the massage, but the "going out somewhere" stumps me a bit. Ideally, the place I'm looking for is:

* Upscale without being "velvet rope" -- classy instead of exclusive
* Lively, but not loud -- I want to be able to hear myself think
* Not outrageously priced (I don't mean inexpensive, more like, I want to be able to say that the amount of money I spend was absolutely "worth it")
* Possibly a place where I could get a delightful gentleman approaching me for a chat, but a place that's so awesome in its own right that I won't care if it doesn't happen
* If it's got a fabulous view, perfect.
* Doesn't have to be a restaurant. In fact, just getting a drink would be great.

I just plan on looking and feeling fabulous and living in the high life for a night, and I'm looking for the right setting.

Thanks!

Looking for NYC bars for this coming Super Bowl

My husband is very sweet and is taking me on a trip to New York City as a birthday gift. However, he just realized that he booked our trip over Super Bowl weekend. Where can we watch the game in Manhattan or Brooklyn with other Steelers fans? Ideally, the bar would have a good audio/video setup and wouldn't be too crowded or rowdy. We would like to be able to hear each other and see the game.

Maybe we should just make this a meet-up.

How can I find this New York bar?

Help me identify a bar in New York from my friend's very vague description of its decor! My friend swears she saw this bar in a documentary or current affairs/news clip, which may have been about vodka, the cost of alcohol or drinking in general. The bar was in New York, and had hot-pink soft/squashy looking seats beside long tables in the center of the bar. Low hanging lights from the ceiling over these long tables, with simple hat-shaped lampshades. There were booths against the wall. People were drinking martinis.

It was the hot pink seats that stuck with her, and I suspect is the only identifiable characteristic! Am hoping this might ring a bell for one of our New York drinkers.

What happened to the Holland Bar in New York? I walked past and the gates were down! The phone is not being answered. Yet another NYC dive gone? What are my alternatives?

Two straws. One glass. Lots of tequila.

Do you know of anywhere in New York City where they serve margaritas in huge novelty glasses, like where multiple people drink from the same glass? My girlfriend really wants to find a place like this, and Google hasn't helped (neither has walking around). Any ideas? Thanks!

Quiet places to work and drink in New York

New Yorkers: where are the best coffee shops, cafes, bars for a spot of work or a quiet read? Help me get the most out of my me-time, or at least minimize the pain of having to work out of office hours.

Desirables:

Friendly staff

Decent regulars

Not too cramped

Laptop friendly

A quiet atmosphere conducive to concentration

I quite like the sorts of places that have esoteric books on the wall and a bit of history in the decor. My own recommendations would be Vbar on Sullivan Street, and 71 Irving. Both of them are excellent establishments, but I'd love to hear about other great places for quiet Saturday afternoons and weekday evenings.

Many thanks in advance.
