NYE Online!

As usual, Mr. jshort and I will likely spend NYE at home... We typically go to bed early since we don't have TV and watching the clock isn't all that exciting. If we decide to stay up, are there online resources to help us ring in the New Year? I'm aware of this app, which looks fine, but I like to have options. We're in the US Eastern time zone (GMT - 5:00).

New Year's Eve in Madrid

I am going to be in Madrid, Spain for a few days. Most of my time is scripted. However, I had the afternoon of New Year's Eve free. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? I am already going to the Prado, taking a walking tour, and a bus tour. I am looking for something that is a must see or do. I am a female in my early 40s. I may or may not be able to get someone else to go with me.

Please give me ideas for a fancy dress costume for 3 adults. A 60-year-old (but look/act decades younger) couple and their late-20s child. They need to be WARM as they will be worn outdoors on New Year's Eve in a Cornish seaside town, but it also needs to be possible to eat a restaurant meal in them. [more inside]

Local Looking to Take in New Year on LV Strip

I'm staying in the Las Vegas area and want to drive to the strip to ring in the new year. I thought this would be easy and I would do the usual thing of driving up I15 to Russell and parking around the Luxor. But, I just saw that all exits along the strip will be closed. Yikes! Is it that crowded on the strip that I will hate it and will just be stuck in traffic all evening? Where would be best to park to get on around 9pm and off the strip after midnight? Maybe the by pass over to the MGM? Any thoughts or descriptions about what it will be like is appreciated.

Are we crazy for going to Vegas on NYE? Yes.

We're going to Las Vegas for New Year's Eve and also the next night. We're staying at the Stratosphere, and are avoiding ridiculously priced "parties" hosted by celebs. Do you have any advice on navigating the Strip, fun free places to go, special public events, and where to watch the fireworks (and do those happen at midnight, or earlier?)? I'm familiar with Vegas--I just want New Year's Eve specific advice. Thanks!
