Road Trip! Suggested eats and roadside attractions?

It appears as though my wife and I will be driving from Toronto, Canada to San Diego between Christmas and New Year's because that's what life presents you with sometimes. We're on a timetable so we can't stop at every cool thing, but it would be nice to find some scenic spots and local chow that isn't Denny's. Route and other details inside. [more inside]

Help me get my red enchilada sauce on!

I have a terrific jar of a sort of paste that my husband made from dried New Mexico and guajillo chiles that were skinned, seeded, reconstituted, blended into a puree, then strained (or perhaps run through a food mill - I was asleep). I'd like to use this paste as an ingredient in an awesome red enchilada sauce. Do you have recipes to share?

Where should we live near Uptown Albuquerque?

At the end of May, the wife and I will be relocating from the Midwest to Albuquerque. Most of the details are taken care of, other than the major exception of where we will be living. We will both be working in or near the Uptown area and I especially would prefer to be car-free. I am definitely okay with biking to and from work and/or using public transportation too. Santa Fe to Abiquiu transportation

I have a friend who will be traveling to Monastery of Christ in the Desert. She does not drive and is looking for ways to get to the monastery from the Santa Fe airport. The monastery is about 75 miles away and they can only suggest "rent a car" on their Visiting Us page. How much would a taxi ride cost (if they would go that far)? Are there services that specialize in this route?

Sights and activities for a two week trip to New Mexico for a budget traveller bumming a free ride.

Last minute trip down to New Mexico came out of no where but I'm leaving tomorrow with a backpack and wanted to know what one could do for a couple weeks. I don't even have enough time to grab a guidebook and my only plans so far are to read The Border Trilogy. The ride is stopping overnight somewhere Utah then finally in Taos. I've got little money to spend regardless, what should I see and do here? I'm looking for a relaxed, unique, authentic Southwest American experience.

From L.A. to Santa Fe and back. By Car

From L.A. to Santa Fe and back. By Car, necessarily. Next month. I'm planning a 1.5 day drive, a 3 day stay in Santa Fe (already taken care of, thanks), a 1.5 day drive back to L.A. Where should I sleep en route? I'm thinking Flagstaff, right? Sightseeing in or around Flagstaff? (touristy stuff is OK unless it's something horribily overcrowded or plainly for kids). Is the drive too long/boring? Any better ideas to make the trip more fun? Suggestions? Thanks.
