Can I skip Verified by Visa? It worked once...

I didn't enter my "Verified by Visa" password, but NewEgg charged and shipped my order anyway. Can I skip this part every time? Over the weekend I was ordering some stuff from NewEgg. I got to what I thought was the last page ("Confirm your order" or whatever), clicked Submit, saw it go to the "Processing..." page, and went AFK for about two hours.

When I came back, I saw that it had actually gone on to this page, asking me for my Verified by Visa password, which I've done before on NewEgg and a few other merchants. I figured my order was actually not placed, but lo and behold an email from NewEgg was in my inbox stating they had successfully charged the order, and in fact it has just now shipped and appears on my credit card.

So in the future can I just close this window and skip the Verified by Visa part (since I always forget my password anyway), is NewEgg just doing it for good looks, or what?

Yet Another Empty Box for Christmas

What more can I do to maximize my chances of recompense with regards to an eee pc stolen during shipment from Newegg via UPS? So, I was eagerly awaiting my first major electronics purchase in four years, a shiny galaxy black eee pc 4G 701. According to UPS it shipped on 12/27 and the clearly tampered and more or less empty box arrived yesterday. Grumble. Grumble.

I wasn't the person who signed for it and I haven't talked to that person yet, but my dad saw the delivery and did notice that the box looked askew at the time of delivery. When I retrieved the box, the tape was removed, but haphazardly put back, the box was waaaay lighter than the 5 lbs. listed on the tracking label and all the box contained was packaging paper and an empty eee pc box. To top it off, the package arrived significantly after business hours to an office address. Sheesh.

I immediately called UPS and sent an email to Newegg. The UPS person I talked to said that I would be contacted by an inspector today. I haven't heard back from UPS or Newegg yet today.

If the contents were stolen while it was in UPS's possession, are they likely to refund the value? What more can I do to get this resolved quickly? Should I file a police report through my city PD? Contact the BBB? I paid for the purchase with my VISA Platinum card, which has fraud protection, but I don't think it has purchase or theft protection. I recently signed up for USAA Renter's Insurance, which I figure is the worst case scenario. What steps do I need to do to get that rolling, or should I wait until I hear more from UPS and Newegg? Should I contact Asus?

I'm no Veronica Mars, but Newegg shipped my eee pc from La Puente, CA and a brickload of the eee pcs on eBay right now are shipping from right next door in Walnut, CA. I suppose somebody could just be getting a good deal on shipping by picking them up directly?

I know I'm drawing at straws, but this purchase is a majority chunk of a month's income for me, which means I've got more time than money to work the problem.

Less taxing than Newegg?

I love Newegg.com's service, but the NJ sales tax they charge is a downer. What alternative online computer parts retailers are out there with comparable levels of service but that don't charge sales tax for shipments to NJ?

Need Newegg alternative

I need an alternative to Newegg.com that easily allows Paypal. I'm having trouble lately submitting orders on Newegg. FWIW the nature of the problem on Newegg is basically that information gets lost when I get transferred to Paypal... as soon as the page comes up I get a Paypal alert icon with "Some information is missing or incomplete. Please correct your entries and try again.". Yeah, right, there's nothing that I can do except hit the Continue button, which I won't do because the order # is showing as 123456789012345. I tried this on a few different machines and browsers, same thing. Cookies are on, I'm running same browsers, and it never did this until this week. I tried notifying them of the error but their contact webform kept complaining that my message was over 600 characters and I had to truncate out a lot of the data. Argh... I want that hour of my day back.

So who else would you recommend that's dependable, secure, and cheap? I'm buying small LCD monitors, disk drives, DVD writers, and so forth.

eBay Secrets?

I'm sure many people have wondered this: Where do e-bay sellers get all their products? If the buy it now price on a barebones computer system, for example, is not significantly higher than the price of the individual components from an online retailer like tigerdirect or newegg, how are these people turning a profit? ~..MI..~ I'm almost tempted to buy one of those "Secrets of Ebay Power Sellers" just to prove to myself that there is no secret. But a regular person cannot get wholesale prices at a small enough scale to make an ebay shop practical.
