Streaming video around the house

I ripped a bunch of my DVDs to my Mac so that I could put the cases in storage. Currently, the files sit on my hard drive on my Mac Pro, and when I want to watch something, I copy the relevant file to a USB stick and walk it upstairs to the TV, where the Blu Ray player has a USB input. Is there an easier way to get these files onto my TV (and ideally, iPads/iPhones) than walking the file around the house? We're an all-Mac household. [more inside]

Networking (maybe?) our Macs

My wife and I use Macs, iOS devices, and Apple networking gear. We're thinking about sharing the desk where my Mac Pro is; as a result, if she needs the desk, and I need a computer, I'd have to use her MacBook Pro. What's the best way to network our computers so that we could do our work from whatever computer we're using, have music and/or programs available, etc.? Some details inside. [more inside]

Any way to remotely reboot a Mac that is NOT connected to the Internet?

I am trying to access my home Mac remotely from the office (I use RealVNC). Unfortunately, there was an Internet outage, which is restored, but the Mac is no longer connected to the Internet. It is however connected to the router, which is accessible from the Internet. AFAIK the only way I can get the Mac reconnected is to reboot it. Is there any way I can reboot the Mac via the router? Or is there some other way to restore the Internet connection to the Mac remotely? I am pretty ignorant on these matters. Thanks for your help.

OSX Snow Leopard and Win XP File permissions are not playing nice. Ideas?

OSX Snow Leopard and Win XP File permissions are not playing nice. The Mac seems to be writing permissions so that users on the windows XP file server cannot change or move the files. It says that you have to have "domain/user" permission. Is there a way to set permissions on the mac side so that all content created on the mac will have permissions set to be open for all users to modify. Or anyone have any other ideas of what could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance for any advice.
