I am an Ubuntu newbie in a mixed environment. I need to print from Ubuntu 10.10 to a Dell 1700 printer attached to an XP Pro PC. I've read reams of tips, tricks, forums, Google searches & past AskMes. I consider myself of above average user intelligence. Am I educated stupid?

Windows XP, XP64, Vista, and Linux machines refuse to play nicely together - Why can't I get them to ping each other? I am trying to hook up a mixed network for file/print sharing, network gaming and the like, but I seem to be having basic IP issues and I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out the problem!

I'd like to create a bootable backup of my MacBook's hard drive 150GB hard drive. I've got a 500GB drive, but it's in an Ubuntu server on my LAN. Is there a good way to back up a bootable backup to another computer?

Home network consists of two XP machines, an OSX laptop, and an Ubuntu laptop. Have just been given an old PIII to use as a file server. What OS should the file server run and what should I use to format the disks?
