I have been charged with the task of adding a switch to a network. There are ethernet jack points at each workstation and each of these go back to a network cabinet. Apparently to make the connections live I need to add a switch.
Where can I find a tutorial that will quickly get me up to speed with this sort of networking?

About 50% of the time, this affects the rest of the 20-odd staff in the office and at least one person will lose some work due to application failure or somesuch. [more inside]

I have 4 Gigabit switches for my network and one 10/100 router. Can/should I hook each switch up to the router and then also plug each switch into each other switch to improve internet performance while still maintaining Gigabit on my LAN?
