Interested in a Netbook or lower power laptop that runs cool (doesn't require external cooling like
this) and has long (6-8 hour) battery life. Would like to run Windows 7 so Chromebook is not a good candidate for me. And of course want to come in around $200. I know there a lot of candidates here but would really appreciate user's real life experience. Thanks.

I have a small netbook (Samsung NC10), running Windows XP, that I very much like for travel. But in some places, it doesn't connect to the internet over wifi. I've never tried to figure out why, or fix it: it's so far always been somewhere I could either skip being connected for a few days or plug directly into a router. But for an upcoming trip I'd like some help with a better plan and some tools and resources.

Help an easily confused person with netbook needs (or do I want a starter ThinkPad?) - some snowflake details inside. Particularly interested in 11" netbooks, but at a huge, giant loss about how to proceed - like, ridiculously helpless here.

Would the Chromebook be right for me as a writing device? I'm looking to replace my old netbook I use for writing with something more swish and it looks to fit the bill, however I'm not a Google Docs user - how easy is it to transition to from using OpenOffice/Word? How well does the local storage/offline working option work? How easy is it to export Word files and how well does formatting carry over? Is there anything else i need to know?

I'd like to replace my 2 or 3 year-old Acer 12-inch netbook with something that has more horsepower. But I still want something that's
small and light with at least
6 hours of battery life. I also want a netbook or laptop that's sturdy and
doesn't get hot or have a loud fan. It looks like the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook meets my needs and it gets very good reviews. Although I'm nervous about it having only a 3-cell battery. I also like the specs for Lenovo's $750 Thinkpad Edge e220s but there are no customer reviews for it on Newegg or Amazon. I'd like your input and to know if I've overlooked any other good choices. I'd rather spend $500 than $800, but I might be willing to pay even more for a truly great machine.

I live in Los Angeles and have Time Warner for my internet connection and Verizon for my cell service. If I buy a WiFi-capable netbook from Verizon, will it pick up the the signal from my wireless router I'm already using at home? If so, does this mean I don't have to pay any monthly charges for having the netbook?
