Noisy neighbor advice

Advice on noisy neighbors. My family just moved. Our immediate neighbors are elderly and hard of hearing, and so the TV volume is quite blaring in the evening, grating for us, but hard on our 2 year old. They seem like nice people though cant understand why our 2 year old needs to go to bed at 8. Wondering the best approach to this? Buy them so wireless headsets? They might not like the gesture nor be able to adapt to the intrusion of this new device. On our end we have tried white noise, but the windows need to stay open with the heat.

Please Help Us Deal With A Nasty Neighbor

Please help us figure out what to do about our nasty neighbor. We have a chain link fence between our yards. Because we were on great terms with the people who used to live there before her, their detached garage forms part of the fence that keep our two Labrador dogs in our yard. Two short sections of fence on her property connect their garage to the rest of OUR fence. She just told us that she is going to take those sections down tomorrow, which means our dogs will be able get out of our yard. That is what I need advice about ASAP. [more inside]

Help Me Help Them Help the Earth

In honor of Earth Day, help me find a creative way to encourage my my neighbor to recycle. We have curbside recycling once a week and they never recycle anything. Their trash is an amazing collection of plastic water bottles, aluminum cans and lots and lots of paper. I hate to see all of this stuff go into a landfill when we have recycling and they have so much to be recycled. Can I do anything to gently prod them into maybe recycling? Is it even my business?

Too many presents

My neighbor is very generous - too generous! Her young son and my kids play together fairly often, and each time my kids go to their house to visit, my neighbor sends my kids home with several gifts. Sometimes if she sees my kids playing in the back yard she just hands gifts over the fence. Last time it was a large tin of cookies, a box of Whoppers candies, and a Vitamin Water style drink. In the past gifts have included a hand-knit scarf, brand new clothes, a doll, a box of donuts, and a large plate of homemade fried chicken. At Lunar New Year she gave each of my kids ten bucks plus a box of sweet rolls. I don’t know this woman well at all. We’ve said ‘hi’ a few times but her English is limited and I don’t speak her language which I believe is Thai. I get the sense that our different expectations around gift giving are related to cultural differences (she’s an immigrant from SE Asia, I’m white, born and raised in California), and maybe also that she is just a particularly (or maybe compulsively) gift-giving person. Stomp stomp stomp, KILL

Some new neighbors just moved into the flat above us. How do I reduce the noise of their constant stomping? Would asking them nicely render a solution? And more importantly, is there some stomping disorder in modern psychology that I should know about? Because their flat is the same size and layout as ours, which isn't that big at all (you can walk across the hall to the door in about 10 steps) and I am genuinely baffled at how much stomping can indeed be done in such a capacity.

how to ask neighbor to be quiet

My upstairs neighbor has become increasingly loud. He installed wood floors before moving in a year ago, which amplifies the sound. I can tolerate most noise, especially during the early evening. But he comes home after midnight, often with boisterous friends, and their noise keeps me up for hours. I've spoken to him on two occasions to keep it down. Now I want to write a letter. I want to be respectful and respected, but I'm not sure what to say other than to keep it down after hours. I know letter between neighbors can't be enforced, so how can I write it in a way that he'll be understanding and comply? Thanks in advance for advice!
