Asking for my wonderful 30-year-old lady friend. She's moving to Baltimore in a few months and would like to buy a house there. She would like to live somewhere between Hunt Valley and downtown Baltimore, she's okay with either a city or suburban feel, and her budget is $160k. Safety is her top concern, and she's having trouble getting an accurate sense of how safe particular neighborhoods are from her realtor and her research. Can you recommend specific Baltimore neighborhoods that are safe for a young female homebuyer? [more inside]
I have a list of places, mostly in my neighborhood and some elsewhere in my city, currently in text form that I want to keep track of in map form. I am having trouble figuring out how to do this. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
At a conference in March, I'll be organizing a group of public history colleagues for a dinner conversation. I'd really like skip the hotel restaurants and chains take them to Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood, but I don't know much about the area. Can you recommend a good place where 15 people could have dinner, ideally in a private room or somewhere easy to hear? And what other sites/stops/points of interest would some geeky historians like to know about? Thanks!
We are an early 30s hetero couple with pets. We are moving to London from the US soon, and will also be seeking to add a third member to our family. Where should we live? One of us will be working near Bloomsbury and would hope to be no more than a 30 minute tube ride away from that area. Other desiderata below the fold. (Adding this question to the database, as the others seem somewhat dated.) [more inside]
I live in Fishtown in Philadelphia, and it is very common in the neighborhood to incorporate a fish into the outside of your house. Are there other places that do this kind of thing? [more inside]

I have a neighbor who is mentally ill and his condition is not improving. He leaves trash on our street and parks his car in front of my house with his trash inside. His house is unfit to live in and I don't know what we can do to help. I'm afraid to approach him 'cause it's progressed to him barking and talking to himself. We live in suburbia and I need resources that can help him.

Where are some interesting places to walk in London? I am in London the next few days and would like to explore some new areas after work. All I know is Bloomsbury to Mayfair to Westminster, so not much at all! It would need to be reachable by tube and should be safe. I would love to find little shops or cafés as well as just a pleasant place to walk for a few hours. I am staying in Hackney, if that is relevant. [more inside]
How can I gracefully address this dog walker's inconsiderate behavior? [more inside]
If you are part of a tenants and residents group or a homeowners' association, have you ever encountered a group which was the entrusted holder of equipment for use by anyone, all year? I am thinking of items that would be missed were they gone. I know a lot already about single-resident-initiated projects. I am more trying to find out if the presence of the items made you more proud or not in your neighborhood and if you ever use or used the item(s).

I live in a quiet and basically ok city neighborhood that's thinking about gentrifying a little. A few months ago we got a new local cafe/bar that's become a community center for parents. But now they don't want us. Can you give me some insight into why that might be or help me plan how to find us all a new hangout? [more inside]

A man died near our condo 7 years ago, and anonymous neighbors maintain a memorial at the relevant telephone pole by attaching stuffed animals, artificial flowers, and other stuff to it, which weather eventually turns into trash. The city has occasionally (rarely) removed it, but the mourners pile more on right away. How can we best negotiate an end to this long-running custom? [more inside]

Is there a map available online of the boundaries of the cities around Los Angeles? For example, the map would show the streets where places like Culver City, Bell, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, etc. begin and end. Bonus points if the map shows neighborhoods within LA proper. Double bonus points if it includes light rail and commuter rail. [more inside]

So I've lived in beautiful San Francisco, California since 2005, but I've recently started a job down in Sunnyvale. I can take Caltrain down there, but it's an hour's trip plus half an hour on either end to get from home/work to the Caltrain station in question. This is not sustainable, so I'd like to move south. I'm 31, single, and a city boy from way back, so moving to The Suburbs gives me pause. Also, I sold the only car I've ever owned back in '05 shortly after I moved here. So I have two questions: [more inside]

Looking for family friendly neighborhoods in Austin. My wife and two small kids will be relocating to Austin. Our current neighborhood is filled with kids playing in the street and neighbors interacting with each other. We know and hang-out with a lot of our neighbors. We want a neighborhood / community like that in Austin. I know a lot of master planned communities bill themselves as family friendly but a lot of them always seem like ghost towns. Where are the true active / friendly communities in Austin?
