ManyRelatedQuestionsFilter: Can I convert an indoor stove from natural gas to propane? Is it safe? Is it difficult? Do I need to buy a special stove and/or special kit? How often would I have to change a standard propane tank? Does anyone have any experiences converting or cooking with a converted range? Should I convert a gas stove or rewire for an electric stove? Thanks!!!

I'm helping out a small not-for-profit with their financials and cost-containment. I've received a letter from our local natural gas provider which is confusing and (of course) it has been impossible to find anyone at the company who can give me a straight answer. So, it is up to me to decide, should we take their offer or not when it comes to signing a contract for gas rates? [more inside]

High-efficiency gas furnace installed where previously there was mid-efficiency. So it vents straight out the wall while the old furnace used the chimney. The vent is right next to the sandbox. How bad is this? [more inside]

I've had a persistent natural gas smell in my house for the past 10 days. The power company shut it off for about 5 days, my landlord went through two times with a plumber to find any potential leaks, and then had to get a city inspector to verify that there are no leaks. So the gas is back on and it's still smells - what's going on and how do I stop it? [more inside]

GasLeakFilter:
This evening, I installed the 1963 Kenmore Griddletop I'd purchased a few weeks ago into my kitchen. At the re-sell shop where it was purchased, I was shownthat all the burners worked, that there were no leaks (some sort of geiger counter). At any rate, I suddenly have a weird sort of sore throat, and I'm wondering if the damn thing isn't leaking. So: first, how do I determine if it's leaking, and two, what are the signs of low-level natural gas poisoning?
(I *did* shut off the gas valve and have range hood fan going, just in case)

Dang, it's cold! I sure would like to sit around a toasty fire. And hey, look over there! It's a perfectly good fireplace... but we just bought this house in July and have never used it. We know it uses natural gas, as evidenced by the key-knob that releases the fumes. But we don't see any pilot light. It might be electric starting, but no switch is evident, and being in a circa 1985 house, I doubt it. So... anybody ever used one of these things?
