After wasting two different off-days trying to get my damnable modem+router working, I want to return them both and get something entirely new. Any good recommendations for a solid, reliable DSL modem and wireless router set-up with decent NAS support?

I have a mess of ad-hoc backup systems, none of which “just work”. I would like to have a NAS that quietly backs up the cross-platform content I have, and also mirrors it online securely. I should probably budget for about 1-2 TB. I have no problem doing geeky setup stuff, but the less routine stuff I have to remember, the better. System details follow.

Looking for advice from other mefites on how to best use the additional disks I've purchased to expand my current home Linux server. RAID5/6? Native ZFS raidz? Something else? Also curious about use of iSCSI instead of SMB for things like Time Machine, etc.

If you could start your HTPC set up all over again, what would you choose? I'm gifting everything (from tv to htpc to router) to my partner and starting from scratch. Tips and suggestions are welcome!

If we stop renting Charter's SMC wireless router what do we need to get/keep in terms of hardware to go from Charter's cable outlet to the Time Capsule? Any experiences switching to Time Capsule with Charter?

Have 2 Windows 7 Pro computers. PC1 is my primary workstation, and PC2 I've been using with the TV for WMC/Hulu. I wanted to start using PC2 to backup the data on PC1, but PC2 is always logged in to record tv or play recordings. How do I ensure that data that I backup to PC2 is only visible/modifiable to PC1?

Is there any way I can connect my External USB hard drive to my PS3 non-wirelessly while still sharing it wirelessly with other devices (iPad, iPod and other PCs in my house) using an Airport Extreme and a 4 port USB hub? I have a gut feeling that there must be a way to do this but I can't actually work out a real world way to do this. I accept I may potentially need to buy a new cable or two but I can live with that. Any ideas?

Snow Leopard DHCP Fun. I want to hook my NAS drive directly to the ethernet port on my Mac. I also want it to have a static IP. How do these things work out?
