Where can I take a nap in NYC? I got an hour of sleep last night and all I want is a place to take a nap on my lunch break. I'd pass out on a park bench if I could but they're just so damn hard. Where to go in NYC (preferably around Union Square) for this?

Naps: better late than never?

Can I nap in the evening without screwing up regular sleep? Making a long schedule short: up at 5 a.m., personal projects and phone with long-distance fiancée until I walk to work at 7:30; work until 5 p.m., walk home and arrive 6 p.m. for exercise, dinner, and more personal project stuff, bed by around 10 p.m.

I get reeeeal draggy in the evenings, though; planned exercise is getting rather spotty because I don't have the energy, work on long-term projects is shoved aside in favour of sitting glassy-eyed in front of the computer, etc.

I've thought about napping, but it's not really possible during my lunch hour, and the best time would be from 6:15-6:30 p.m. or something similar. But I have a fuzzy idea that this is too late in the day to nap, it will destroy my sleep cycles, etc. I have searched around a bit, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of solid information on when you can nap.

i can't nap!

I don't know how to nap. I dream (har har) of being able to take a power nap. I know that a 15-20 minute nap is supposed to be quite refreshing, but any longer is a bad idea. But I have a problem. Unless I am doped up on NyQuil or haven't slept in several days, it takes me at least half an hour to fall asleep. As such, I have no idea how people manage to take a nap for only 15 minutes - mine last 2-4 hours and I always wake up feeling absolutely horrible.

Is there a trick to this, barring any kind of weird medication? Do people actually just rest their eyes when they "nap," or is everybody else capable of falling asleep quickly? I feel like I am missing out big time, and since I just started grad school, being able to take a nap seems like it would be really helpful.

What happened during my nap?

Am I losing it? I rarely nap, but on a recent afternoon I nodded off on the couch only to (gently) wake up about an hour later completely disoriented. It was like the whole time/space continuum had collapsed. For about 60 seconds I was in a near panic state not being able to get my bearings. Who am I? How did I get here? What time is it? Where is everybody? Then it sorta passed. I am a reasonably healthy 37 year old guy and get 8 hrs of sleep nightly.

Anybody ever experience this? Did I wake up in the middle of REM sleep? WTF?

Napping and nasal pain.

Sinus Pain: After napping, I almost always wake up with sinus pain or a terrible sinus headache. Why? I've tried googling and I've read past sinus threads, but none answer my question.

No matter the length of my nap (usually they vary from half an hour to 3 hours), 95% of the time, I wake up with pain in my sinuses or an unbearable sinus headache. It doesn't matter where I nap (at my house, a friend's house, my parents' house, etc.) or how much sleep I've had the night before.

I love to nap, but the sinus pain is preventing me from curling up as frequently as I'd like to...

Any ideas why?

Napping techniques?

Napmasters assemble! When I take a nap, more often than not I wake up feeling like absolute crap: my head hurts and I feel even more tired than I did before laying down. I try to avoid naps because of this, though I do enjoy the odd siesta. Does anyone have any techniques for executing a pleasant, refreshing nap?

How do I recover from an all-nighter?

You've nearly pulled an all-nighter. It's nearly 4am, and you can see yourself leaving the office about 4:30/5. What's the best way to get yourself into and through the next day? Do you go to bed right away, try to catch as much sleep as possible? Do you take a brisk walk, catnap for an our or two, followed by a cold shower and another walk and get back to work? Fresh fruit or caffeine? Carbs or protein?

How can I sleep well on a split shift?

What's the best way to get a good night's sleep? The newspaper I work at recently went to a crazy schedule, so I now work a split shift. My body hates it because it's used to a constant 8 hours a night. How can I trick my brain into being well rested? And what role do powernaps have in all of this?
