How to list my university on my CV/Resume?

The (state) university I attended was absorbed by a larger state school and the name of the school changed. How should I list this school on my resume - by the name it went by when I attended, or by the new name? [more inside]

Deciding on a new name for myself

I am female, I go by like 10 different names (and respond quite well to all of them). I never really had one name as a result. I have reasons for changing from my birth name, including that there are porn stars with the same name online lol! [more inside]

sweet jeebus i want to stop explaining this

Soooo...my name is Siobhan. However, the typist for my birth certificate spelled it Siobahn, which means my legal name is misspelled. It's not an alternate spelling, like Suzanne/Susanne. It's just wrong. I called Vital Statistics in PA and the woman there said I have to pay for a name change via a lawyer. I explained it was a typo, not a name change. Am I looking at several hundred bucks to fix this or is there something else I can do? I use the correct spelling for everything except legal stuff and bills. It's just getting to be annoying and I want to get this fixed the cheapest way possible. [more inside]

Can I use my old passport even though I've legally changed my name?

I was married a few years ago and subsequently changed my name. My DL says my married name. We are preparing for international travel early next year, and I'm wondering if I need to pay the $110 to get a new passport or if we can just put my maiden name on the plane ticket. I'm a US citizen... [more inside]

It's easy to spell and pronounce in Cyrillic.

So, dad made a career-motivated, discrimination-avoiding last name change as a very young 1st generation American in the 40s (for the change, think Jon Stewart ditching, "Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz"). Now, after a great deal of thought (and family support) I plan to take back the old surname. [more inside]

One name change. Two countries. Double the paperwork?

Dual U.S./Canadian citizen here. I want to change my name. This is not a marriage-related thing. But. I want my name change to be valid in both countries. If I go to the U.S. embassy with a Canadian name change certificate, will that be sufficient for a U.S. name change, or do I have to go through the paperwork on the U.S. side, too? [more inside]

changing last names at marriage

Getting married soon (woo!). The plan is to change our names to Me Mylast-Herlast and Her Herlast-Mylast. I don't know much about traditional name hyphenation. Will this be interpreted differently by people who are more aware of the customs? I'm worried about people thinking that my family name is HerLast and her family name is MyLast, etc. Any other advice on the topic would be appreciated as well.

What if I told you my name but it wasn't technically my name?

I'm 23. In a few months I will be moving to a different state to start a new chapter of my life. I would like a clean break with my past. Would it be socially acceptable to rename myself (first and last) and to introduce myself to people using my new name without any caveat or footnote? My legal name will not change. Would you feel betrayed or deceived if you were my acquaintance/friend/lover and eventually found out my name was actually something completely different? Let's assume marriage is out of the question and that I am not doing this to hide any youthful indiscretions. Is it ill advised to compartmentalize one's life in such a way?

What last name should I use professionally as a man years after changing it to get married?

A good fifteen years ago, when I got married to my first wife, we got all modern and changed our last names to a combination of our first names and thus became MARk and SHErrie MARSHE. Since we got divorced I've spent a good fifteen years intending to change my name back to my maiden name, Morgan. I've been going by Mark Morgan most places on the Internet since then, but legally I'm still Mark Marshe. I got my name legally changed so I would have to pay the state a nonzero amount to get it back to Morgan. Until I can afford that, what's the best name for me to use in business? Morgan or Marshe?
