How can I access my data on the move?

I'd like to carry my digital address book around with me. Problem is, it's not in a standard format. Some years ago I made the probably flawed decision to store all my contact details in a little Windows application called BusinessCards. It works absolutely beautifully, mimicking the original Windows cardfile program but with unlimited entries and the ability to paste loads of text into each file and format it in weird and wonderful ways.

However, even though the .exe can be moved around from computer to computer and the whole program can run off a memory stick, my contacts are still tied to a laptop so I have to wait for it to start up, etc. etc. Ideally, I'd like to access this data on my phone (a Nokia N95), with a fully searchable application that can also be synched with a PC.

There are currently around 2750 individual cards, each containing a varying amount of contact data, none of it in dedicated fields (name, phone, street number, etc.). What are my options? You can save the database in three formats, .bcd format (the proprietary format for the program), something called cardfile 3.0 (.crd files) and Comma Delimited (.csv files).

Does anyone have any recommendations for cardfile-type software for the Symbian S60 operating system? Can I export this data? Many thanks in advance.

nokia n95 password encryption

Does Nokia N95 encrypts e-mail passwords that it stores for automatic retrieval? If it does, what is the encryption scheme? AES? Proprietary code? I am currently using IMAP functionality and i am curious if some malicious code run in web browser (or some other trick for that matter) could leak sensitive information such as the stored email passwords.

Embedded J2ME database on N95

How to get a relational database on a mobile device, and query it using J2ME? Hi. I've trawled and scoured, but I'm missing something reeeaaal basic :)

I've got an N95. I'm writing a Java microedition program for it using Netbeans. All fine so far. However, I'd really like a relational database to power this program.

I suspect that I need to be using pointbase embedded or micro, but I'm not sure.

Ideally I'd seed the database with the data and relationships, build and test the application using Netbeans IDE and device simulator, then upload both to the N95. The app is a multiple choice quiz, and the data contains some relationships that would be soooo much simpler to model in an RDBMS than raw Java objects.

I appreciate this is probably very straightforward, like I say, I'm struggling to work out exactly what I need to do :-|

And if anyone has experience of developing apps with embedded RDBMS for N95 using Netbeans... let me know any tips :-)

Much obliged.

Nokia N95: is it better than a stick in the eye?

I have serious tech lust. I think I want to get the American version of the Nokia N95. Please help me decide if this is the phone for me. Pros: combines several functions (mp3 player, 5 megapixel camera, 30 fps video, gps, FM stereo, some great applications, pocket version of a VOIP client, web browser, works on 3G on AT&T, bluetooth, micro SD, 1 gig.

Cons: Cost! ($619-$699), have to get an AT&T plan, have to use a sim card from the AT&T plan

I am uncertain about how the phone will function in the states. Nokia has released an American Version (N95-3) which has some nice (extended battery life) features and has done some things that seem not so nice (gotten rid of the sliding lens cover for the camera).

So, if any of you have this phone, would you buy it again? What do you like best? What is a pain? Any support issues on using it in America? Any apps that are "must have"?

iPhone Killers?

Are there any cellphone MP3 players that let you set an mp3 as a ringtone? I'm thinking of replacing my cellphone and mp3 player, but I refuse to buy a combo device that won't let me set an mp3 as a ringtone, because that's insane. I also want to be able to buy an unlocked handset and use it with whatever provider I want, rather then being a slave. (Can you tell I really don't like the cellphone industry?) So basically I have this tiny little Samsung YP MP3 player, which is great for working out, but lately I've been taking my phone with me to the gym and it's silly to have two devices. According to a sales drone at Radioshack the Samsung UpStage for example, won't play mp3s as ringtones. What phones will? Any?

I'd also like to get something that let me surf the web like a toshiba g900 or a Nokia n95 provided they can play mp3s as ringtones.
